2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah it does seem like we are starting to move into the "getting frisky" stage of a rebuild, where you have lots of energetic and talented high draft picks who even if they aren't stars will keep you competitive. The last quarter and two overtimes of this game were really fun to watch, we never gave up. But not to be a killjoy, but that stage just carries you from being in the cellar to being sort of competitive for the last playoff seed.

Haven't watch this version of the team much, but at least from this game it seemed like Drummond is pretty crucial to our being competitive, don't think we could have come back unless we had him as a defensive mainstay and an option in the halfcourt offense. But like I said I haven't watched this version of the team much so might be overgeneralizing from this game.

Very impressive to overcome Drummond’s awful night, Love’s rust and Blake’s red-hot shooting. And to do it with... defense??? Are we sure these are the Cavs?

Tight rotation last night, but all without KPJ, Windler and Delly. Wonder what happens if/when the first two return. Probably less Nance at the 3 and fewer Drummond/McGee minutes?

Should be less love. Cap love’s mins to about 25-28 and off the bench against opponents second team. He and cedi off bench would be effective imo

Yeah, maybe. Let’s stay realistic though, they are definitely not benching Love.

As for the first lineup, Nance has made it clear he doesn't want to play center. But I could see this lineup if we're playing a team that isn't using a true center, like Golden State with Draymond Green at the 5, for example.

As for the second lineup, that looks good although if defense is what you're going for what are Cedi and Sexton doing in there? How about Delly, Okoro, Nance, Maker, and McGee? Great defense but no O.

The Cavs seem to think KPJ has more upside than anybody so the lineup I want to see is Drummond, Love, Nance, KPJ, and Sexton. A huge front line (offenses would be limited to one shot) and all kinds of scoring potential. Sexton and KPJ can break anybody down off the dribble. We have post-up guys (Love and Drummond) and four 3-point shooters. We have guys who can score in transition (Sexton, Porter, Nance). Pretty exciting lineup, IMO. They would definitely score a ton of points and dominate the glass.
I’m not too impressed with Nance at the 3 so far to be honest. And the point would be to create more room for the Cavs’ wing talent, not less - while keeping Sexland together. And for that lineup, I’d rather see a mobile, versatile big than Drummond, Love or McGee. Think of him as Mobley stand in perhaps in this scenario?

Speaking of the wing talent, might even experiment with short bursts of KPJ-Okoro-Windler-Cedi-Nance for an ultra switchable option. If that’s not enough ballhandling and playmaking, throw in Exum.

I guess I just want to see the young guys put into many different positions and mix up their responsibilities. I’m a big believer in pushing up and coming players outside their comfort zones to expand their skill sets and help determine their boundaries. And that is exactly where the Cavs are on their development curve.

Windler is the third string SF at this point and he might not be back for a month. By then Okoro will have nailed down the starting job. Heck, he already has - he played 42 minutes last night.

Cedi is off to a great start, hitting 52.4% from the field and 53.8% of his 3's. That second number is not sustainable but he's clearly improved his outside shot and is averaging 16.5 points in 22 minutes. I'm not seeing how Windler is going to take minutes from Okoro or Cedi the way they're playing.

Also, Windler looked tentative and uncomfortable in the minutes he's played, shooting a corner 3 that hit the side of the backboard, for example. I think he'll get mostly garbage minutes when he returns.

Imagine the Cavs with a top 5 pick in next years draft. I'm fucking loving the talent on this team. What we do this season is going to be so detrimental. I don't know what we should do. I want to win man. But at what cost? and what is the cost of losing? I DONT KNOW. HAAAAA/. I'm fighting my own demons.

Like we can add just one more talent and we become complete. Fucking hell. This team is exciting.

When he comes back (4-10 weeks was the estimate i saw) they really need to get him through the rest of the season healthy and
get him into a strength program. He plays pretty recklessly and he's so wiry,,,he needs to get stronger.
