2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh my!!!

You know they are cash strapped to even consider dealing Cookie. If that's the case, and they are going Full Tampa, they might as well just burn it all down.
I was talking to my buddy about this tonight and we both agreed.....Lindor we understand but if they’re looking at possibly dealing Cookie, might as well look to trade Perez and Jose, clear the decks and go full rebuild

JOSÉ IS THE ONLY UNTOUCHABLE ASSET!

Please stop saying such nonsense. In fact, he may be on the best contract in baseball as measured in value on field and eyeballs he brings to the TV sets each evening.

While Frankie has been the heart of this organization and media darling Jose Ramirez remains the HEART of this team. He's a relentless competitor and his future remains as bright as ever.

Agreeed... there high dollar value guys will be first and foremost on the trading block. THere is no one in that foursome that is untouchable.. The closest to untouchable is Bebo.. he's the least expensive.. and MOST important to the strongest part of the club: the pitching staff.. With Bebo, they can win.. PERIOD.

The only umbrage is a syntax issue.. if three of the four high dollar guys are traded.. it's not a "full" rebuild.. especially considering the pitching staff mostly remains intact..

Now if Civale, Carrasco, Bieber etc etc are added.. then that IS a full rebuild

There aren't going to be enough teams willing to take on salary in exchange for top prospects and cheap, young, controlable players to make it possible to get full value for all our expensive guys this winter. When even the Phillies are looking to shed salaries you know it's a buyers market, with very few buyers, and it's not smart to sell into such a market. Frankie? Sure. We have no choice. Carrasco? Maybe, but it will be a salary dump and I don't think many will be happy with the return.

TOTALLY AGREED!!!!

I will say I embrace this new 'must start with an exclamation' trend.
Now wait a minute here.

You start your post with all caps and then exclamations. Looks real similar to my

NO CHANCE !!!! Even with a cash infusion.

But you are not childish and screaming Macbdog.

Tell me, Oh tell me, The secret to your success, Oh wise one. :ok:

Yep the market for young control-able players has been tightening for years. And for any that don't think it is going to get even tighter, the next month should dispel that.

Why pay a middle market vet, that is close to league average production wise, when you think you can get close to the same production from that young control-able guy at a whole lot less cost

Another thing to cool it down. I know Jup from the IPI boards and - though it's "yelling" I don't take offense, I don't care. I think he knows my posts (and I his) well enough I wouldn't see it as yelling/poor taste/whatever. Just emphasis on a point/player we keep speculating on over and over again.

But if it's not.

All good? Moving on.

All in jest Criznit !!!

Doesn't mean enough to me to get but hurt about it. It is just to fun to point out the "hypocrisy" or "uneven" field on the board once it does happen. Ha Ha Ha :celb (7):

Especially when Qtip has to intervene - because then it really gets interesting. Now back to baseball

I just posted Carrasco, Vargas plus PTBNL (probably) to Tampa for 2B/SS Edwards, LHPs McClanahan, Fleming, RHP Goss, and OF Arozarena.

Then add in Lindor plus Zimmer to Blue Jays for Guirrel, Groshans, RHP Merryweather and C Riley Adams, plus maybe a RHP (they have a log jam of them) Like Joey Murray.

Then sign like a Freddy Galvis, to like a one year 2-3 million deal, just as a stopgap type (may not make the whole season, but you need some veterans around).

To me, there isn't a big hole left on the roster. I know some are like, thats not enough for Lindor and I don't disagree, but I just dont see us getting as much as we want on the boards. I just dont think they will Move Kloffenstein or Woods Richardson. Plus Merryweather is originally from this organization and I thought he was going to be a legit SP candidate before Tommy john.

Hmmm... Some thoughts..

Vargas... is probably an RP with the Indians w/ the depth in the pitching staff.. but a starter prospect for just about every other team not named dodgers.. He's a personal favorite... (not that that means anything)

X Edwards probably would be unavailable.. He's a better prospect than Arias, already in the Indians' wigwam.. but..he can flat out hit.. bunt.. run.. run some more.. a four tool guy who might (and should) get a little stronger/drive the ball better.. The star of the deal coming back..

Arozarena, with the domestic violence stain.. may be someone the CLEFO avoids..

The two lefties.. easily loved but for opposite reasons.. McClanahan is a flame thrower that intimidates.. Think Garrett Crochet from the CWSox with more athleticism..

Flemming is a control and command guy.. He is more Mark Buehrle than an example of today's tall and fall flame throwers..

Goss.. IDK much about him..

Merryweather is just such a risk... he's been "coming back" from TJ for what seems like years.. He was (past tense) an interesting & projectable SP..

Gurriel is an automatic.. great contract, too.. think 1/2 the price of JRam w/ the same type of production..

Groshans is a huge get.. perhaps a better prospect than Austin Martin, imho, in the Jays system.. Has a filled tool box.

Both Riley and Joey are guys that are better than their current status..

Both of these deals.. would and should get a FULL GO..

I thought in the short run at least, all three teams win, the Indians get their retooling, Blue Jays get their star SS (who they could financially resign) then Tampa gets a veteran SP who they really need

To get the package with Edwards, I figured I would have to add in a young arm, plus it would set up the 40 man as well as lot better since we got 2 lefties in the deal who need to be added to the 40 man. Scouts rate to guys who play 2B/SS above Edwards in their system. I value contact above power, so Edwards is very high on my list. *side note, in my OOTP run through, Ty Cobb would be proud of me, I am leading the league in hits, batting average, doubles, triples, sac hits etc. Plus the Indians haven't had a left off prospect since Lofton honestly.

I totally forgot about Arozarena's domestic violence thing, but I have a hunch he found himself a gold digging momma, who likes everything her way. On paper his 20, was way better than anything any of ours did though. Rays may want to deal him cause of it in the end.

Merryweather actually did pitch in 20, he was hitting 96 normally (average was almost 97) then his change-up was about 80-81. From looking at his baseball savant numbers and whatnot, his stuff sinks and should be a strikeout pitcher. Its rare I see anyone in baseball rate a 29 year old American Prospect in a top 30 prospect list. I think we are underrating him as a pitcher, plus we would have him for almost his entire MLB career. I like him to slot into Carrasco's place in the rotation.

Goss was 19 draft pick from high school, so he is like 19 years old. I wanted someone who we didn't need to protect, but could help us down the line depth wise. I dont think he will be anything amazing, but feels like he has a very good floor if he avoids injuries.

Riley Adams fits the defensive first C, so I was planning on him being a depth piece this season then being the backup long term/gap person until Naylor is ready.
