2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone recall such a mundane offseason? I know that there is a pandemic and all, but damn! Somebody has to do something at some point......right?

I think a lot of owners are trying to pause major moves until they have a better idea if fans can attend next year.

Add - trying to pause to force prices down - and you probably have it

So, it looks like our roster is almost set

SP - Bieber, Plesac, McK, Quantrill, Civale (over Allen? -- send him to AAA for 6th guy as McK will need a few starts off here or there and next in line is Moss/Morgan ????)
RP - Kar, Clase, Witt, Maton, Hill, Nelson (over Gose/Hentges), Stephen/Plutko
C - Perez/Hedges (or do they need to trade Hedges for OF depth and save $2 million?)
INF -- Bradley/Naylor, Rosario, Giminez, Ramirez (at least till July), Chang (Utility till Miller/Freeman/Clement is ready to take over for Rosario at 2nd)
OF -- Mercado, Johnson, Luplow, Jones, Bauers/Zimmer (agggg ...)
DH -- Reyes

Boy would Smith looked great over Roasrio

This is not going to overtake the WhiteSox this year .... Twins, I am sure will end up with enough FAs (resigned) to fill their holes to compete with Sox for our division.

How many extra slots will MLB provide assuming it will be at least by end of May for most players to get had the vaccine?

The Indians aren't competing this year for the central title. That has been pretty obvious for awhile now.

It will be more of a race to see if they can stay out of the cellar

I agree .... thought it should have started even last offseason to get more for Lindor. Just doesn't make sense why we even needed Rosario and Giminez as this trade's headliners when we are just bidding time for Arias and Rocchio ... might as well had Chang and scape heap 2nd baseman in there until Freeman, Miller and Arias were ready maybe starting mid-season.

So it looks like the Indians are in the market for a FA outfielder.
I don't think George Springer is coming here.
I would like to see Joc Pederson or Kyle Shwarber.
But we are probably more in the Jay Bruce, Bubba Starling league.
Michael Brantley is now 34 years old. He left the organization on good terms. Maybe?

How many guys are locked into their positions?

Jose 3B
Perez C
Mercado CF?

Are there any others? Obviously guys like Reyes, Naylor, Rosario will be in the lineup but do they have a locked in position?

...or, instead of a retread/also ran FA.. who's return will be diminishing.. a less than blockbuster and more than minor trade could be considered.. EG Dylan Moore or Ty France from the Mariners...

I figure Gimenez is locked in at SS and Rosario at 2B. From everything I've seen, Gimenez is an above average defensive SS. Rosario is bad at SS but I don't see him transitioning to the OF. I think Naylor is your left fielder and Reyes the DH. Luplow will likely platoon in RF with someone. I can see them looking for a value pick up at 1B or corner OF when free agency plays out a bit.

Eddie Rosario would make a ton of sense now that they are able to "reinvest" into the roster.

I doubt he's in our price range, but he's the sort who could be left scrounging for a one year deal when free agency winds down.

I agree. he might fall into our laps, but I am still not convinced we will put up that much money for a single player yet

The best thing the Indians can do at this time..now that Lindor has been moved.. & now that Cookie has gone with him.. is to make the next change(s) a full re-load..
