2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
White Sox ink Liam Hendricks for a monster contract.. more than the entire Indians salary..
Option AND buyout are both worth 15 million?!?!?! And Brad Hand zoomed through waivers.... Where else are the ChiSox weak? They'll be addressing it........

Mysterious AL team in deep discussions. Hmm.....

That is a pretty insane deal for Hendriks. Were there any teams other than the White Sox willing to offer him anything even remotely close to that?

Even though he went unclaimed at waivers at $10m, I wonder if Hand will end up doing better than that original salary. Could see him maybe getting 2 yrs $20m from someone

If the Red Sox are serious about trading Benentendi for prospects, I'm very interested. Maybe his ceiling isn't what it used to be, but his floor is higher than most of our OF right now.
I'm sure his price is not that of a premium prospect.

I am too. Sox probably want some pitching, we have that. If we can shed some salary somehow (Hedges?) to pull it off, go for it, especially if we throw him into centerfield.

I do think we cold put a deal together for Benintendi that wouldn't break the bank by any stretch. However, if the tribe expects Boston to pay for him, it could look steeper. IDK, seems like a decent gamble.

There were three new "package" deals suggested for Benintendi, all with the Tribe picking up his projected full $ 6.6 MM contract for 2021:

1. Cody Morris, Junior Sanquintin and Adam Scott

2. Logan T Allen and Jake Bauers

3. W/ Eduardo Lopez for Scotty Moss, Carlos Vargas and Jose Fermin

All three of these give a "flavor" for the kind of return.. The third deal sees an international prospect, Eduardo Lopez, the Red Sox signed in 2018.. he's a CF'er.

The MLB Trade Rumors site seems to believe Benintendi will be traded by the weekend. If the Tribe is in on him.. this would be a good gamble for a make good kind of OF'er at a relatively low price.

We'll see..

So according to Spotrac the tribes payroll for net year committed to the 6 players signed is 23 million,,,
so I am assuming unless they dip into the free agent market the rest of the rostered players are playing at minimum salary around 600 thousand
each? If thats true that would add roughly another 12 million so total outlay for next year would be around 35 million at this time?
