Best way (in my opinion ahem) is to have kids play the game if they enjoy it growing up.

I do not think getting fans involved that have no prior experience with the game will be a fruitful endeavor now.

Once again, you're presenting a false choice that its one or the other.

That's not an opinion so much as it is a fallacy.

One or the other? What is this duality you speak of sir?

sucks for him. Hopefully he can actually make a full recovery.
It’s basically a death sentence for his season.

The season is only 10 weeks long. There will be six weeks left when he can even start throwing again.

It’ll be similar to the situation he faced at the end of last year. One hiccup and it’s over.

Yes, getting kids playing early is good for both the sport and athletics in general. But that is a parental responsibility.

yeah i didnt mean this year. I meant headed into next year

Really feel bad for Kluber. I'm sure he's done for this season. Couldn't pitch last season because of the broken arm. Rangers have a $18 million option on him next year, but I don't see that happening.
He was always a good teammate. Always took the ball and gave his best. Think he just ran out of gas in 2016 WS.

Even though he's a two time Cy Young winner, he didn't hit his stride until past his 30th birthday. Because of that, he didn't make a ton of money. (Compared to others with his stats.)

For an old dog like me, how the game is played nowadays cuts out too many
dimensions of the sport.

The essence of the game now is home runs(with exit velocity) , strikeouts (must have radar readings) and unfathomable
paydays for the best players that make it impossible for the majority of clubs
to retain top talent.

Times and culture change and it is likely that baseball is falling on the outside of the popular tastes.

Of course it's a matter of dollars and cents and views and what not for big business. I say it's best to keep things as simple as possible.

If you're just not excited about the game of baseball itself, then I don't think you'll like it no matter what.

Kluber to Cleveland on a 1+1 prove it deal in 2021?

I'd do it.

Kluber's never relied on his velocity. If he can just stay healthy and maintain his control / breaking stuff, he could still be a very good starter.

His arm does not have very many pitching miles on it for his age either.

@Out of the Rafters at the Q and @Lord Mar @Derek

Lord Mar essentially says he loves baseball just not all the jargon talk that the hard-core fans like to talk about. He doesn't just want to read about how this blah stat explains this incident or explains why this guy is good or bad. He just wants to watch baseball with the buds and enjoy the game without the jargon. Derek not everyone likes the analytics of the game, they just like to watch the game and don't need to be told about why player A is better than player B. He knows who is better by watching them and thats enough for him. He doesn't need anything more than his common sense to enjoy the game

All true.

And there are other stat geeks who love the breaking down and analysis of data. Neither group is right or wrong, because the value in baseball is ultimately in whether you personally find it enjoyable, and there isn't any right or wrong answer to that. If you don't like the deep statistics dives....ignore them. If you don't like like hearing people "go with their gut", ignore them.

Nobody is making anyone read anything.

I do not think getting fans involved that have no prior experience with the game will be a fruitful endeavor now. And you know as well as I do that shoving all sorts of data in their faces won't do the trick.
I am involved in youth sports and have been for 20+ years -- beyond little league, baseball is a niche sport. There are many choices and baseball does not see widespread play, especially "casually".
I'm perhaps odd (to be sure), but I never really watched a soccer match until I was in my 30's, now it is right up there as my favorite sport to watch...I learned the game, nuances, too, because my kids were into it to start, but then, "I got it". I have been playing/coaching volleyball for nearly 30 years...never played it at more than a BBQ game until after college. Growing up playing the standard football, basketball, baseball mix (yeah, I went to a small school), but it is a big world out there, full of options...cannot count on just people who played, because that pool is shrinking.
