Hot mic bites the Reds Brenaman tonight. He is already fired apparently.

Let me fix that sentence for you. Thom Brennamann bit himself. It's not the mic's fault.

Yeah I think I'll wish you guys the best discussing this issue.

Was watching the Red game, it was actually somewhat weird. As he was apologizing and had to interrupt it to call a home run

It must have been surreal - i'll go find that clip. I actually enjoyed his commentary, sad to him have to go, but he has to go.

Maybe he comes back someday, but this should serve as a good lesson for everybody else currently living in the US/World.

Edit. Wow. He kind of gives his eulogy... BUT.... He immediately mentions that it went over the air unbeknownst to him, an appeal to "understanding".... Doubles down on priding himself as a man of "faith"..... He is truly sorry, he isn't making excuses, but he knows he destroyed himself.. He made a ton of dough though, so he'll be alright.

What an idiot. How can you have a job like that and not be aware that the MICROPHONE in front of your face might be on? See ya dum dum... Imagine how he talks when he is around people he trusts??

SEEEE YA.

All he needed was Bert Blylevin saying that "we need to do this f'n thing over again because I just f'd it all up" while live.

As a side note, I'd like to know what Dave Chappelle thinks of Brenneman's mishap.

What's the mishap? That it got caught and broadcasted? That he said it at all? That he is bigoted and hateful enough to refer to some place as "One of the FAG capitals of the world"?

As soon as the world was shown what kind of person he is, the Reds really have no other choice than to can him and he knew it as well.

I could care less that a mic caught it. I care about the substance of his character. I'm just glad the mic put it out for the public so there was no denying it.

Sucks to see a good broadcaster go. Good to see us holding people accountable and expecting them to be better.

Politics and personal attacks are verboten.

Find a more gentlemanly way of discussing the issue.

It's either black or white with you on this matter and therein lies the misunderstanding. Expressing enjoyment of one's success has varying degrees. It's the excessive showboating that causes the issues. I'm sorry if you don't understand that. I didn't "attack your character", I simply mentioned if you have no respect for your opponent, even in the midst of your success, then you do have poor character in sportsmanship. If that hurts your feelings then I'm not sorry. You don't seem to care about anyone else's so why should yours be of concern.
I guess excessive is in the eye of the beholder. I’m not advocating taunting, which is disrespectful, and I don’t believe bat flips or admiring a HR qualifies as such.

Those actions don’t disrespect your opponent at all, in my opinion. It’s a personal celebration. It’s not directed at anybody.

There’s nothing malicious about a bat flip or admiring a HR. If someone is offended by those actions, yeah, I think that’s pretty damn soft. I don’t think the actions I mentioned are any different than a fist pump or a team-wide celebration at home plate following a HR. They’re joyful celebrations for an individual/team and aren’t directed toward the opponent.

I’ve just always been of the mindset of if I get beat, and I’m upset about it, I should work to do better next time. Yeah, seeing someone bat flip after hitting a piss missile off me would be upsetting, but not because I’d feel disrespected, but because I’d be disappointed that I allowed it to happen. Resorting to violence (throwing at someone) in those moments of frustration is just a sign of immaturity, in my opinion.

To clarify my perspective a little further, I work with kids for a living, both academically and athletically. Helping those kids deal with adversity is a large part of my job. I'm a big believer in the E+R=O concept from the book, Above the Line. We can't always control the events that happen around us, but we can control how we respond to them, which will help dictate more positive outcomes for all. I'm a very positive and enthusiastic person, who loves to encourage others and celebrate successes.

How long should a celebration go on? Is it it OK to stare out or back at the opponent....gesture at the pitcher or hitter as part of your own pumped up celebration? None of it is illegal, of course, so it becomes a matter of standards... what is reasonable? Not every "celebration" is equal...of course not. Not every bat flip or scream is the same.

I too spend a good bit of time coaching kids/young adults. In volleyball there is a celebration on nearly every play (not an exaggeration), but after a particularly big hit or block, with guys in particular, it sometimes leaves the realm of celebrating your accomplishment and heads towards letting the other guy know about it. In volleyball in particular, the big expression is part of the culture, but we coach them to celebrate on our side of the net, not celebrate "at" the opponent. This is the norm through pros and Olympians....take my word for it -- the other team has a clear sense of what just happened to them without anything extra..
