2020 Assistant Coach News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pretty confident the Trent ship has sailed.

The Redskins basically fired everyone responsible in the whole fiasco and he's under contract for the foreseeable future. Not sure the Redskins will be inclined to mess around with their Franchise LT.

doesn't seem very analytically friendly to trade for a LT his age either.

So far I’m loving the way he’s been willing to evaluate people off of their own merits instead of just hiring along his own coaching lines. Retaining the coaches who led over performing units while getting great hires from a variety of backgrounds seems like the right, no-ego way to run the team. Callahan is such a massive win for us.

It would obviously depend on the price that he was ultimately traded for, but likely no. Especially the money that one would have to invest into Trent with a new contract coming up.

Although, if there was one place that an analytically leaning front office would lean towards spending money, its the offensive (and defensive) line. It's generally considered fairly safe to spend big money on worthwhile OL talent.

Trent hasn't played in 2 years, right? He can't be expensive. Maybe a 3rd. I wouldn't give up anything higher. It also might help that the Redskins fired Bruce Allen who I hear was very stubborn about that whole situation.

I'd like to see us target at least one really good offensive lineman in FA, even if it costs some money. Then use our 1st round pick to draft one, and target another later in the draft.

Edit: I'm not even sure I'd want to give up one of our 3rds for Trent. Dude is injury prone and old, and wants money. I'd take a chance with a 4th (risk vs reward) but that's it. Lots of good offensive linemen in this draft, and we desperately need a safety too.
Could do a 4th with it converting to a 3rd if certain conditions are met.

Can someone give some background and strengths of the guys we have brought in so far?

O’Shea: Patriots lineage, but worked with Stefanski in Minny before spending 09-18 with Belichick. Worked with some greats, knows how to manage big personalities.

Callahan: One of the best OL coaches in the game. Zone blocking background, been around forever.

Woods: Had his DBs playing at an incredibly high level over the last half decade or so. Super Bowl pedigree, another guy who has worked with some incredible talents.

If stefanski doesn’t hire Childress I’d love to get Caldwell as a sr offensive assistant. Haven’t heard any word on anyone wanting to hire him as a OC so we could get him as an assistant. He would be invaluable to bakers development.

With the Callahan hiring, I doubt that we hire another exHC type for the staff. The "too many cooks" thing, much like what happened last year. I realize the main problem was Freddy didn't listen to any of them. The issue remains. The most obvious candidate, Childress, could be an exception given his willingness to help KS and the unlikelihood of his taking a major coordinator type role or using it as a stepping stone, but I think the asst HC role has now been filled.
