2020 Cavs Summer Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
From The Athletic:

“I think we have enough time where, systematically, we can lay the groundwork for what we want to look like in the future,” Bickerstaff said Wednesday.

Part of that groundwork comes from his second goal: to experiment.

In March, before the season went on hiatus, Bickerstaff discussed his plans to play with different combinations of players in the lineup. But they missed out on their final 17 games of the season and missed out on another opportunity having been left out of the Orlando bubble.

Here in Cleveland, though, they can experiment with lineups big and small and can move around guys capable of playing multiple positions. They can explore different offensive and defensive end-of-game lineups. They’ll have these workouts on tape and can study the different combinations before the start of the 2020-21 season....

Bickerstaff said he was generally pleased with how players showed up, but some were in better shape than others. Bickerstaff saw a noticeable difference in Garland, Porter and Windler, and Sexton said he gained at least 10 pounds of muscle by altering his diet and focusing on portion sizes.

Just wanted to add some comments by Chris Fedor on a recent podcast about Dylan Windler. Probably none of this is new, but FWIW...

Windler brings "things that the Cavs missed last year; shooting, spacing, an extra playmaker and ball handler, and basketball IQ." He understands cutting and angles and is a really good rebounder for his position. The organization feels there is a strong possibility he quickly becomes the starting small forward unless they get someone in the draft who is immediately better. They need what he brings more than they need what Cedi Osman brings.

Windler is seen as a "seamless fit next to Collin and Darius...he doesn't need the ball in his hands."

Fedor had this on Garland...

"They didn't get the player they drafted [due to previous injuries]". Garland is the "only true point guard on the roster" and "the opportunity is there to get all the point guard minutes his body can handle."

Finally, he talked about the Cavs problems on defense. Nobody on the team, with the possible exception of Nance, is a "plus defender". The only path to improvement is that they "play harder" or if Bickerstaff can scheme around the weaknesses. Fedor does not like Toppin at #5 because he's a weak defender and the Cavs don't need any more of those, but that may not be how the Cavs see it.

My expert analysis based on photos: Windler looks like he's as tall as Nance, and has the same kind of frame as Exum...

I really can't wait to see how he stacks up against SFs. I want to get a mental image of how he handles the position on defense.

Many draft websites said, his biggest attribute on defense is the rebounding. That will be a major plus for this team when you already have Love,Drummond, Nance and possibly Tristran on the team.

Defensive Analysis

  • Engaged defender with good instincts. Covers a lot of ground playing with a nice energy, but lacks a degree of length to contest shots. Likes to mix it up on the glass and would benefit from getting stronger.

If,he could give us anything on defense that will be a major plus for this team defensively. He doesn't need to be a lockdown defender like Kawhi,Paul George, Jimmy Butler,Lebron and etc...

Can he atleast be an average to above average defender. He has the size for it...imo

I think,he's going to take Cedi's starting job sometime this season.
