2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Perhaps the B1G could provide any sort of information or explanation as to why they cancelled the season? Or how that decision came to be? Particularly when other conferences are practicing in pads, full-go, with no issues??
Fine, but PSU not talking among themselves...? That is just silly, and poor form by the AD.

I can give you one big green reason.....

UNC just went to all online learning. Can't imagine they play football without kids in classes.
This is one of those moments where universities should evaluate their priorities....purpose.

Just going around country on practice reports...

Having graduated from FSU, was good to hear Norvell call them soft. Working in new schmes (mostly screen game) to help their terrible offensive line negate pass rush. They have a decent transfer RB in JaShaun Corbin (originally at Teas A&M) so he wants to utilize Corbin's skillset out of backfield. They've started contact practices this week, so fun to see guys actually hitting again.

Noles had some miscommunication last week, causing some negative reports to be written, but it was largely on a specific player for misinterpreting HHIPA laws. Also exciting the new saliva test is being worked on allowing them to test more than twice a week which is kind of the national standard right now. They expect ability to test players to become more frequent, cheaper, and smoother.

That said, was interesting to hear many ACC schools have added an 11th game to their schedules today. Haven't announced who their new opponent's will be, but exciting they'll work in one OOC game. While Big 10 and Pac 12 have cancelled, it's pretty wild ACC is adding additional OOC games. Wouldn't be surprised to see SEC follow suit.

Down at UF, they had (4) players opt-out of practice and Mullen believes those guys will sit season out. He's fully supportive of their decision.....he also stated he believes he may have a coach or two opt out, and he's good with that. They'll sort through it and make the best of it. One guy opting out is a familiar OSU name, Trevon Grimes.

I expect several schools in leagues playing football, to opt out. Certainly Duke/UNC could be schools that opt out, but rest of league will play. Most universities don't have the luxury of being in AAU. 12 of 14 Big 10 schools are in AAU. Only 5 ACC schools are in AAU. Only 4 SEC schools are in AAU.

Being in AAU is a MASSIVE financial buffer for the Big 10 and Pac 12 that receive billions of dollars annually in grant money for research. It's no coincidence Nebraska is not in the AAU, and voted to play football......that TV money is very significant to them.

You're assuming that to be the case. Perhaps the PSU President does not know, either?

I think the path for Ohio State and the other big ten schools who want to play is for the ACC to have teams drop out. The ACC and Big 10 could come to some agreement to play and share revenue. Possible then play again in the fall with the teams that opted not to play, again sharing that revenue.

Really I can see the ACC only have a handful of teams who really want to play. Basically Georgia Tech, Clemson, Notre Dame, Miami, and FSU.

Sooo this may be nothing but this guy has had some legitimate scoops before. Most recently he had the B1G cancelling days before it was announced. Interested to see how this plays out:

...also, on an unrelated note, I guess I didn’t know that Kevin Warren’s son is going to be playing in the SEC this year.

Buckle up boys, things are heating up:

The development of a saliva-based COVID-19 test serves as proof, in Mars' view, that the Big Ten acted prematurely. That new test could also open the door to the conference reconsidering its decision, he said.

"Kevin Warren has a second chance here to do the right thing," Mars said of the first-year Big Ten commissioner.

If he doesn't, he predicts that it "might shorten his tenure as a college football commissioner. I say that because these parents are not going to give up, and neither are the players."

Barring a crazy outbreak, I think Big 10 at a minimum allows member institutions to make individual decisions for the season.....more likely, I think they rescind original decision and go back to original plan.

It’s happening.

And Fields should prob win Heisman alone for saving the season.

Cut to 2 weeks later when everyone pushes football to winter/spring

I hope if they are reversing the decision that they come out with a solid plan to make sure they can get to actually playing the season. Setting up benchmarks for testing. How games with be delayed and rescheduled.

Im just not seeing it....universities are in midst of figuring out best way to become “Yale Certified”. College football, like the NBA before it, is turning into a catalyst for the best testing system in the world.

If UNC is any indication, that’s not going to be in time for the season to start on time. Unless you think that schools that aren’t having online classes are gonna allow athletics.
