2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I fucking love college football.
Me too, man. Yesterday was an incredible day.

Playoff race just got so much more interesting. And chaotic.

Also, OSU absolutely cannot lose a game now and still get in. The Big 10 sucks and there's gonna be too many 1 loss teams with a significantly better resume. Good news is, I don't see anyone in the Big 10 possibly beating OSU.

I dont think anyone is firing a big name, highly paid coach this year.

Athletic departments are bleeding money. They simply can't afford to go and fire Harbaugh right now with the cost of his buyout.

Everyone talks about Michigan being so disappointing for having such a huge brand but somehow its like Nebraska just flies under the radar now.

up until last year they were top 5 in wins all time. Something like 5 national titles.

I dunno why they don't get the same continued heat for not turning it around.

Probably because they've sucked for 20 years. No one expects them to turn it around anymore.

How many times has Michigan won the Big Ten in the last 20 years?

They won it the year after OSU won the Title with Tressel.

Did they win it that one single down year with Fickell? Other than that I mean...

No, MSU won their division

Except for the Rich Rodriguez teams, Michigan is still a program that wins 9-10 games a year. Which is also why their failures are more high profile. I'm not sure Nebraska has made a bowl game more often than not in the last 20 years.

Well see this is the thing. They actually consistently won 9-10 games with Pelini.

Pelini coached from 2008-2013, 6 seasons. They won 9 games in 3 of those seasons and 10 in the other 3. Three took place after joining the Big Ten. One of those years they actually won the division, thanks in part to OSU being ineligible to go bowling (the 12-0 year). Still, Michigan hasn't won its division since the Big Ten split the conference.

But that wasn't good enough. So they fired Pelini. And it's only gotten worse.

But it wasn't that long ago that they were winning a fair amount of games every year.

Put it like this: With their fan base, money, and tradition, two straight below .500 seasons should never, ever, ever happen.

Well I agree with that. I was only speculating as to why Nebraska doesn't get the same criticism as Michigan. I can only guess it's because they've been worse longer. Or maybe people feel it's a demographic issue. Nebraska doesn't play Big XII teams in Texas anymore, so it hurts their recruiting down there. I just get the sense that no one expects Nebraska to get back to competing for national championships again, so they don't get talked about as much.

Unrelated and irrelevant but Pelini is such a fuckboi

There are a lot of blue blood (or close to blue blood) programs that look awful right now.

Michigan
Penn State
Nebraska
Florida State
Virginia Tech
Tennessee

Texas has started to look ok..but just ok.

Georgia's offense looks...dreadful. But its only one down year so that's too early to lump them in with those other teams.

LSU -Ala postponed

As is A&M-Tennessee, plus Auburn had to pause workouts. Just a mess and it’ll get worse with their filled stadiums and 200,000 daily cases across the country...

PAC is already a mess, Cal probably won’t get to play Arizona State due to quarantines.

I guess the upside is after a couple weeks without Lawrence, Fields rose in some Heisman rankings. With Jones out this week maybe Fields will gain more of his deserved recognition as he catches up on games played.

EDIT: UPSIDE IS DEAD NOW GREAT

We saw it with a professional sport in Baseball who struggled with containing Covid. Not shocked that the wild west of the NCAA has also lost control.

Will be interesting to see if there are even Playoffs this year with the way the spread continues forward.

Bunch of cancellations and postponed games across the country, so not much this week.

ND @ BC - BC is a solid team. This is the trappiest of trap games.

NW @ Purdue - Winner is on the inside track for the B1G West
