2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
COMPLETE hypothetical (and not realistic), but IF Isaiah Simmons is on the board with Beckton, Wirfs and Thomas, who are you taking at #10?

i either take simmons or rake someone over the coals with a trade request (also making sure to still get a LT).

What i think is a lot more likely is that most of the LT prospects are gone and Simmons is still on board

IF Simmons & one of the better Left Tackles is sitting there when the Browns pick at #10, I'd want them to make a deal & acquire pick #11 (currently the NY Jets).
Give up our 2nd in 2020, one of the 3rd rounders in 2020 & our #1 in 2021. Get back #11 in 2020 & a 2nd rounder in 2021.

Say thank you very much. Take Simmons & the Left Tackle. Wait to pick again in the 3rd round..

I think you might wanna re-write this one

I would say that Simmons is good but a bit overrated.

For instance, I don't think Simmons would have been the first LB taken last year. Some are making him out to be the next Patrick Willis or something.

I'm more than happy going LT then seeing what's there in rounds 2-4 at LBer.

Late 3rd/ early 4th name to remember:

David Woodward, Utah State

He is a converted safety and just a tackling machine. Concerns about concussions may mean he is a red flag for some teams.

Hey, not a football guy, but I've heard all the talk about QB hand size, especially regarding Joe Burrow.

I'm 6'7 barefoot with a pretty big wingspan and my hands are only 9 1/2 inches (and I stretched the hell out of them).

I don't really have a point. Just shocked at the hand size of the average QB. Or maybe I've secretly had the tiny hands of a carny my whole life?

Man... if I’m looking for a left tackle ready to contribute in a ZBS this season, I think Josh Jones out of Houston may be the closest we’ll be able to get.

I love Wills, but I imagine that he’ll be off the board by 10, and I do not trust Thomas in pass protection. Becton is a freak athlete but also not a good pass protector (8 pressures allowed on only 73 true pass sets).

The only other option to me is Wirfs. I love Wirfs and, to my eye, he looks like a left tackle in a ZBS. But I keep reading that people think his hips and feet are poor enough that he is more of a guard.

If I am drafting for 1) this season; 2) future:

1) Wills
2) Jones
3) Thomas
4) Becton
5) Wirfs

If I am drafting for 1) future; 2) this season:

1) Thomas
2) Wills
3) Jones
4) Becton
5) Wirfs

Am I crazy? What do those of you who’ve watched more college football than I think?

Beggars can't be choosers, as they say, but I disagree with those who believe Wirfs isn't a tackle. He ran like a defensive lineman in both the three cone and 40 yard dash. This is the first good draft for tackles in a long, long time.

Okay, I’m glad I am not alone. I do not really know what I am looking at when it comes to scouting, but to me, the guy looks really good in Iowa’s scheme and in pass protection.

It seems like all five prospects will be long-time starters on the offensive line. Even Becton - who looks incredibly raw to my eye - seems like such a physical specimen that he cannot fail, even if it takes him longer.

I give Wirfs a lot more credit because if he is too much of a guard to be a tackle, then he will make one fuck of a guard.

I like the high floor there, and since we will run 2 TE sets, as long as he excels at one position, we should be strong at OL after some time to gel and learn the system.
Wirfs is also strong as fuck, and he also seems a gym rat. That’s not everything, but I will take the work ethic plus versus the “he can’t get any stronger” knock because he hit the gym so hard.

Wirfs lacks some technique, but is a beast in the tests. I dont think he is a day one starter at tackle right now, but day one starter at guard that can play tackle.

Thomas and Becton are beasts that will most likely be gone by the time we draft, but hoping Wills is still there when we draft as i think WIrfs gets over drafted based on combine.

Of thomas or Becton are there, you take one, dont look back even if Simmons is there.

LT is a critical position, and the odds of both having one in the draft and being high enough in the draft to get him are not good.

I hope the Browns don't overthink this. Screw the trading down to get another pick while hoping there is a true franchise LT on the board when you pick again. Just grab the top guy on your board at 10.

I think the top four are incredibly special LT talents, and any other year in the past they would each be the top tackle in their class. Websites are so confused why these guys are all in the same draft class, I believe they are nit-picking issues with them. Instead of adjusting how they rank a position, they want this draft class to look more like their comfort level of two really good prospects and two guys who might bust. No, this year is different and it's because preparation for offensive linemen at the college level has completely changed, and this is the year franchises are seeing the payoff.

I guess the situation would be is if the team does not think there is a franchise LT on the board when they pick. In that case, though, it means that at least two of Tua, Jeudy, Lamb, and/or Simmons are on the board.

The question then is if you think Josh Jones can be a franchise left tackle (I 100% do and think he can start at that position in a ZBS next season). If the Browns do not, though, then I imagine they trade down for massive value.

To me, options 1-5 should be drafting one of the tackle prospects, even if you think they are really a guard in the NFL. Last I checked, Wyatt Teller is not a stud at right guard, and while I do not love using a top-10 pick on the interior offensive line, it is more important in a ZBS than a gap scheme.

If the Browns really do not believe in one or two of the prospects, though, then I think the team absolutely needs to trade down. There are too many long-term holes on the defense as well as two key ones on the offensive line to reach for when you could very likely turn that first into a first this year and multiple seconds, or potentially even a first next year.

For as baren as this class is at a few positions, it is absolutely stacked at receiver and offensive tackle, no? Like Jeudy, Lamb, Ruggs, Raegor, and Higgins all look elite as do the top-5 offensive tackles. It also seems like it is stacked in the secondary, too.

Most of this is based on what I have read. I watch draft videos, but barely watch college, so I know less about this than most. I could be totally wrong...

If the Browns believe there may not be an OT worthy of the 10th overall selection in this draft, then either 1) they've massively screwed the pooch by not getting one in free agency, or 2) they plan to do what is necessary and trade up to get a guy they believe is a franchise OT.
