2020 MLB Draft: Barebones edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am a casual draft observer/reader, and follow the the Tribe Minor League system relatively closely -- no expertise at all, but a few guys that interest me in this next round: are High School LH Pitcher Dax Fulton (I have seen him mocked to Indians), along with college right handers Nick Frasso and Jeff Criswell.

Tucker apparently just had a growth spurt up to 6'2". Give him a couple of years to work into that size and we might be surprised with what he develops into. But I agree with Law, probably not a SS.

Burns is sort of WYSIWYG. He could develop slightly more speed on the fastball, but seems to have well developed breaking balls now. That's one of the reasons I think you could see him soon. Plus the Indians seem to have so many interesting pitchers, they could move some for other needs.

The first two picks are stereotypical Tribe.

Very young hitter/MIF with bat control and contact skills.

Older college pitcher with control and command...average velocity and plus off speed stuff.

How many scouting reports on Cleveland pitching prospects have we read that begin, 'average fastball velocity that plays up because of his ability to command it on both sides of the plate'?

The Indians have gone all in on these two prospect profiles.

Funny how mid-90's has become average velocity. I'm not disagreeing, it's just crazy.

I trust the player evaluations made by our F.O. much more than those of the professional punditry.
I am in this camp as well. I like Law, for instance...think the guys at FanGraphs are great, and there are others I enjoy reading as well, but in the end I trust our guys...not to be perfect, but strong and consistent producers of viable players.

With how well they have drafted and developed pitchers lately, you almost have to side with the FO. Also i felt the two guys we drafted to be more of safe bets in a sense. Now no one in the draft is a safe bet, bur i feel like they have a higher probability of making the pros, just may not be high profile/all stars.

Anyone else paying attention to the draft today?

So we drafted left-handed pitcher named Logan Allen in the second round. What are the odds of that happening?

Actually not too bad based on what I just read about him. Highly polished, good command, pitcher who stays within himself and knows how to pitch. Another WYSIWYG sort of pick. They seem to be playing it safe this year. Or cheap?

Cole Wilcox and Tanner Witt both still available but it’s about 27 selections until the Indians next pick. Also, it’d seem if they wanted either, they might have picked them at 37 or 56

I have no problem with them playing it a bit safe. Only 5 rounds instead of 40. Make those picks count.

I'd say they are drafting towards their system in place. I mean pitching wise their record has been almost flawless (outside of Aiken). Otherwise its really been young athletes when it comes to position players. Someone like Allen, is likely to be at worst a LHP in the bullpen. If that's your worst case scenario when drafting a pitcher, you almost have to take it.

One of their picks, they could easily end up going out of the system and go BPA, but with 5 rounds, you have to make every pick count more than you did in previous years. I'd say they are sticking to their guns and trusting they are right.

I wonder if there is any polished college bats left, I really would like one if possible this draft, but not a big deal if they dont
