2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yep. A lot of things have to go right to make the Garland/Sexton pairing work and we are going to look back and ask if it was worth it. The best case scenario in my mind, is we use one of them to get a disgruntled superstar. Even if they both turn out.
I can't see pairing Garland/Sexton for very long. I'd rather put KPJ next to Sexton. But lets see what they do in this draft..Or are able to do.

Just want to put out there that although Sexton/Porter minutes weren't great last year. They actually played well together in some of those games at the end of the year. Especially 1st quarter of the Jazz game before Porter got the concussion. They played a couple of games starting and I thought they played well together.

Definitely the way I see it going forward. Garland could improve but if he doesn't it might be good for him too to come off the bench.

I posted Okoro's video in his thread..

I would highly recommend looking up past drafts over the last 15 years. What it reminds you of is most of these guys people are falling in love with are not going to be that good. In fact a large amount of the guys people talk themselves into end up being end of the bench guys or out of the league. There are some years that are some exceptions such as the Irving, Klay , Kwai, Butler draft, but there are far more busts then booms,

Keep in mind this might be a draft that produces no perennial all stars at all. Yeah every draft has “role players” but that term is probably over used. There are starter role players, rotational role players then guys that fill out the end of the bench who are just eating up minutes in a 82 game schedule during blowouts or back to backs. Just some reality about expectations for whatever the Cavs get at 5.

Any word on Okoro's measurements? Last documented was his senior year of high school, which would peg him as an undersized 3, hopefully they are a tick higher now.

ESPN has him listed 6'6 with 6'10 wingspan, almost identical to Winslow in height, length and weight

Okoro will be gone before we get a chance at him, or we'll pick the wrong guy.

Kind of where things sit for me currently at #5:

Please fall!

James Wiseman - to me, he's got the best chance to be a foundational piece moving forward and the best player in this draft.. His combination of athleticism, coordination + agility, length + size and touch on offense should not be overlooked... I think he's the best player in this draft and it's really not even close.. I'd use Drummond or additional assets to move up for him...

If we're doing this the right way.

Isaac Okoro - if we're drafting for the Cavs current roster/situation, Okoro is really what the Cavs need... Productive, two-way wing players have become the highest currency in the NBA.. Currently, the Cavs have none... I understand the concerns over Okoro's shots, and advanced metrics, but I think you're hoping for a Jaylen Brown situation but also okay if he comes out Jae Crowder... I tend to think he'll be on the higher end of that career arc, but the tools, skillset and fit are all there for me... More than anything else, I came away really impressed in his ESPN NBA Draft Virtual Film Room clip with Mike Schmitz... That junkyard dog, addition to defensive details and overall defensive grit is exactly what this team needs moving forward with the current pieces...

Onyeka Okongwu - let's get Bam Adebayo out of the way, this isn't Bam... But, that doesn't discount Okongwu has the makings of a productive, two-way NBA center and his lack of height is much less an issue in today's game then it would be 4-5 years ago... He doesn't have the size and physicality that Bam had but he also has much more offensive touch/potential than TT ever had as well... If you're going to have a Sexton-Garland backcourt, I think it's more important than ever you have productive, efficient two-way players around them who don't need the ball on offense to be productive (OO is a very good offensive rebounder, runs the floor well and can be a vertical spacer) and will clean up messes on defense (good shot blocker, good rebounder and had positive advanced metrics)... I understand the Cavs have Drummond, but I'd be okay letting Drummond and his future contract demands go for other assets and going with OO...

Meh, I guess.

Obi Toppin - You can live with hiding a player at the 4 and you can live with a guy who's offense might make his defense, or lackethereof, passable... However, putting that with Garland + Sexton and your defensive profile really takes a hit... The production, the offensive potential and the excitement is easy to get behind however looking long-term at the fit, or just the fit with the backcourt, and I struggle to see how that leads to a productive team.. Essentially you're hoping he can have a similar play profile as Love, being an offensively proficient, stretch 4 who's gonna struggle on defense but hopefully rebound the ball well... Last year, in 929 minutes, the Love + Garland + Sexton trio produced a 117.6 DEF RTG which was 4th worst defensively of 3-man pairings with 200+ minutes and 2nd worst of 3-man pairings with 300+ minutes... We've gotten a preview of what the trio could/would be and it's just something I think you want to build around...

Ugh, no.

Deni Avdija - good player? Sure... Right fit for this team? Absolutely not... Perhaps it's because I watched too many National Team Deni games as opposed to Maccabi Tel Aviv Deni but either way, I don't see the fit next to Garland/Sexton... You need a proficient shooter, he's not it (and his FT% is troubling)... You need a proficient defender, he's not it... You need someone who can play well off the ball, he may be it but operated much better offensively when he was a point forward or operating out of the block... Put Deni on the Warriors filling the Iguodala role and I think he thrives... But Deni on the Cavs, asking him to spot-up and guard the best opposing wing player and I think he fails...
