2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Unfortunately no. The sooner they get sold and moved to a city that will support them the better.

I really don't think they're looking to move the team, but we'll see I guess.

Sounds like he is going to get a chance to make the ball club. The question is does he have at least decent control now? Its not often you see a lefty that can throw as hard as him.

You're right, LHP with that kind of velocity don't grow on trees. All I know is that they were pleased with his progress. If he can establish enough control to be effective then you'll have Karinchak, Clase, and Gose in the backend of the BP.

@steve.. the comment by this other poster is a continuation of the false reality that an owner of a baseball business like the Cleveland Indians has an unlimited source of revenues/funds but refuses to spend those funds to spite the fans..

It's hogwash...

Reality says.. if you have a business that creates a HUNDRED units of revenue, then you can only spend that HUNDRED units on the business.. or, over time, there is no business.

That posting is garbage..

Being able to throw that hard puts Gose into one of two categories..

1. Effectively wild.. too many walks.. too many runs.. or
2. Wildly effective.. which we can live with..

Thoughts?..

Holy shit, for the 100th time, Jose isn't going anywhere any time soon. He has three years left on his deal! I've said it before, I'll say it again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Indians sign him to an extension.

His situation is about 1,0000x different than Kluber/Bauer/Clevinger/Lindor. I don't think I need to explain how it's different because it should be obvious.

Anyways, his contract and his production is of absurd value to the organization. The Indians are not rebuilding. You need elite players to win in the MLB and Jose is exactly that. I don't care what he'd bring back in a trade because the Indians would lose from a value standpoint.

Many owners have a continuing source of revenue from outside the teams they own. They spend profits from that business on the sports side and expect to recoup the money down the line in the increased value of the franchise from holding it.

If we were rebuilding, JRam would be gone this off season, but since we are retooling, he is staying, which means Jones has to learn how to play another position since he is effectively blocked now (he wasn't good there anyways, so not a loss).

Who in the hell are you even arguing with? Everyone here agrees that Ramirez being dealt is a longshot. The conversations are based upon reasons consider trading him or not to. Not a single poster has compared Ramirez's situation with Kluber/Bauer/Clevinger/Lindor.......not one.

No shit his contract and his production is of absurd value to this organization. It would be absurd to any organization and you're opinion that the Indians would lose from a value point is no more valid than saying the opposite.

My conversation around trading Ramirez came about from the idea that Lindor will be dealt to the LAD. I don't think they'll have any interest in him, but I believe they'd give up the farm to get Ramirez for the exact reasons you mentioned.

Has a manager or FO exec ever been included in a trade package with a superstar? I’m guessing Morosi was just having fun with that tweet but still it would be pretty wild to send out a superstar and our GM together in a trade
Actually, I think Indians GM Frank Lane traded managers with the Tigers in 1959 or 60.

Would probably be for the best if the Tribe could deal Chernoff and get something for h rather than let him walk for nothing when his contract is up. If they can package him with Lindor, so be it.

Call it re-tooling.... Call it whatever... Fact is we are not the divisional favorite anymore and might be the 3rd best team as things currently stand. Oh and Detroit is getting better quickly, probably quicker then we want to acknowledge.

Roughly half our lineup will be new guys in 2020.... We also do not expect to buy any FA's that are more than lets say... 5 million for a season... What does that mean? It means we will be hoping someone steps up in 2021 who was essentially a non-factor until then. Call it what you want.... We are not tearing down to rebuild, but its more than a coat of paint and a lube job.

Jose is here to stay for now, but injuries/struggles may expedite his departure. Also it is highly unlikely N.Jones sticks at 3rd, and internal options other than Mr. Jones are a mystery.
