2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
half of Los' option year value for AAV.. he'll be missed.. looks like part of that Sherman money being used.. wisely..

Good deal for Carlos. Ok deal for the Royals... Clearly the intent here is to flip him.

As for the ChiSox living in the 80's.. I do not disagree, but every Jerry Fatneck on the Southside is screaming "this is OUR year" and generally their fans are happy. So...

I'm curious how much Sherman influenced KC FO to go after Carlos.
Sherman got to see the impact of Carlos (positive in 2016/17/19, lack of having Carlos in 2018) up close...

I hate covid. I bet the Tribe keeps him if they weren't in such terrible shape financially. That is a steal for Los. Carlos' eye will keep him in the game for awhile longer imo. He stays in the Central that he already knows.

I think a very limited spring training really hurt him last year.

And hanging him out to dry in the clean up spot all season when he clearly was struggling. He is certainly ticketed for a rebound season, followed by a flip to a contender.

Yet here they are, likely the best team in the AL Central at this moment.

If baseball is reliant on the “appeal” of sabermetrics then it’s done. Dead on the vine.......done.

Well, I mean, Sabermetrics is only a portion of the things I mentioned.

For example, the Indians pitching development has been hugely aided by data and sports science-- implementing a lot of ideas from Driveline.

Some players like that stuff, others don't. But if you don't at least have that infrastructure in place for those who do want it, then you're not gonna attract a certain type of player. That's why, from what I've heard, Springer and Bauer were never going to the White Sox despite the evident fit.

Then they go out and hire Tony La Russa....

Carlos seemed headed downward last year. That is a lot of money for him. But happy for him
yea, godluvhim and all - but holy poop, people were posting here that we might get him on a make good minor league deal - and i was with em ----furthermore, kansas city? kansas city??

Will be hard to flip at deadline unless he has a real bounce back season.

Agreed - but they have 3 obvious points to trade him for a return. 2021 deadline, 2021 off-season, 2022 deadline. If he bounces back they will get something for him

Plus no universal DH will be a hindrance.

Yeah, I don't disagree in the slightest with what you're saying here Ed. I was only referring to MLB fans and how they generally relate to their respective teams.

and the offers they get are gonna be along the lines of "we'll take the contract, but we're not giving you any players --- seems like there would be a better use for the $ in KC

I think they paid too much honestly, since in time I think the guy they gave up will have equal production

Lynn becomes their #2 behind Giolito. Then it will be Kuechel, Cease, and Lopez. God forbid Kopech comes back and regains his form. They also have Crochet and Steiver that are ready. They may leave Crochet and his 100 mph FB in the pen for now.

Meanwhile, they have Grandall at C, Abreu at 1B, Madrigal at 2B, Moncada at 3B, Anderson at SS, and an OF that consists of Jimenez, Robert, Engel, and Eaton. Oh yeah, there are rumors that they are interested in signing Brantley also. If I were them I would give Adolfo every opportunity possible. If he proves ready then you're looking at an OF of Jimenez, Robert, and Adolfo. That's would be ridiculous IMO.

Then there's us lucky Indian's fans quibbling over who should be in the OF mix out of Bauers, Naylor, Johnson, Luplow, and Mercado. We won't have Lindor, we won't have Hernandez, our catchers are the best defensively but can't f'n hit a lick, 1B will likely be one of Bauers, Naylor, or Bradley. We do have Ramirez and a solid pitching staff, so an astute trade or 2 could fill some holes and keep us competitive. As it stands now IMO, we would only finish in front of the Royals and maybe the Tigers due to the lack of offense.
