2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Although there's zero chance of it happening, the one way that the Tribe might be able to keep Lindor is to sign him to an extension where an enormous amount is deferred. Especially since there have been rumblings about the Dolans looking to sell, this arrangement would allow the Dolans to avoid paying the lion's share of his contract. Again, wishful thinking, but probably the only conceivable path to keeping Frankie here long-term.
Please explain.

Please explain.

For example:
Instead of paying him $30M over 10 years, pay him $25/year over 10 with $50M deferred over the next X number of years.

Allows them to spread out the payments, similar to the Mets Bobby Bonilla deal that they're still paying for.

It's not something this organization is ever going to do, quite frankly. Most especially with question marks surrounding the ownership and a potential change. Also something that Francisco Lindor has no interest in, because he doesn't seem to have any interest in playing for this team long term.

Wonder if the Pirates would be interested in dealing Adam Frazier.

Indians get:
Frazier

Pirates get:
Eric Haase
Adam Scott

League average hitter, plus defense at 2B. Platoon possibility with Chang.

I actually feel Lindor wants to stay in Cleveland but when it’s likely a 10 mil difference between signing in Cleveland and signing at a bigger market, it’s impossible for him to stay in Cleveland.

next time you talk to Frankie ask him what he has against cleveland.

that said lindor on this franchise locked in for 10 years is a selling point, regardless of how the money is spread

any thoughts about Rameriez, that response was clear as mud.

Sounds like the FO says Ramirez just wants one of the positions and doesn’t wanna keep switching so 3B it will probably be.

Also it is easier to find and replace 2B production than it is 3B as well in my mind. Jones at the moment I’m my mind won’t end up staying at 3B if he doesn’t fix his defense there, but we have a ton of talent profiling at 2B so I would say keep him at 3B and let the other talent take 2B over.

Deferring money has proven time and again to be bad for the franchise but great for the player. Good for Strasburg- essentially a guaranteed investment return- but I can't imagine it being a good idea for the Tribe, especially as a cash-strapped franchise.

What a disaster of a pick. Especially with Walker Buehler sitting right there for the picking. Oh well.

Main issue with Buehler was he needed Tommy John the second he was picked. Not many teams would have taken a red shirt pick in the first round. Even though Tommy John is essentially a normality nowadays.

Aiken had TJ surgery the same year.

Buehler made his professional debut all of 2 months after Aiken.
