2020 Series #13 Brewers @ Indians Sep. 4-6

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit the 10 day IL with Bradley or Bauers getting a call. I think Los needs a break and would come back refreshed.
Santana has averaged 155 games per year over 9 years (every full season of his career) with only one trip to the 7 day concussion list, and you wouldn’t be surprised if they shut him down for 10 days with a phantom injury so he can rest? I’d be shocked.

I advocated for moving him down and moving Reyes up a few weeks ago. Not sure if Sandy makes that move - perhaps when Tito returns.

You don't think that averaging 155 games for 9 years is going to effect a 34 year old? He's off and something isn't right with him. We'll see.

I’m not saying he’s right and I’m not saying he couldn’t use a breather, I’m saying I’d be shocked if they benched a loved veteran like Santana by stashing him on the IL with a phantom injury when he’s consistently answered the bell every day of his career for 11 years.

And with only 21 games to go put him on the 10 day IL? Not happening. move him down the order, maybe give him a day off or two before that.

OK you stat mavens—-Has Santana lost bat speed?

I dont know if he's lost bat speed or if his timing is off, but he has been consistently late on fast balls.

If its a loss of bat speed, that often leads to cheating a bit...starting a fraction of a second earlier...which means swinging before he recognizes the pitch...which would make him vulnerable to anything that is off soeed, esp change ups.

In his four at bats last night, he made outs on three change ups...two routine flies to left and a whiff.

He saw seven fast balls in the zone...two were sinkers. He took two, fouled three, and missed two. He only got around on one
In his last at bat he ripped one just outside the bag, and then he saw two change ups.

Its a problem, but when you only have two or three guys hitting on any single night, switching the line up is merely rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

He certainly has a long and fairly consistent track record of heating up after cold starts, but the short season magnifies his woes. The big question is whether the folks that make the decisions and know more than we do see a major deterioration, or merely see the same old same old.

The second question is whether its better to stretch the lineup out, or put four black holes in the back half of our lineup...because thats what we would have right now.

We can hope that Naylor hits, starting right now...and that Mercado hits, starting right now...and that Berto returns and starts hitting, starting right now...but so far, none of that has happened...which is the exact same thing we have with Carlos.

And...which of those positive scenarios is most likely to happen, because we've seen it time after time before?

...watching Mercado swing the bat the last two games..his quick bat is back.. he'll hit.. and it has nothing to do with results at this time...

I think you are right, gson.

I've always liked his swing and how athletic and natural he.looks at the plate.

And he is merely following the trend lines of a lot of very good MLB players...having early success, only to get kicked in the teeth in his second go around...and having to take a quick remedial course in the minors.

Now, he just has to do it.

If he does starting now, we are improved. If he does, and Naylor lives up to his promise starting now, we are in business. And if Santana gets untracked, too...look out.

But I think that one out of three is more realistic.

Here we go..

The line up is a little different vs the lefty.

Luplow follows Reyes, and then Berto, Naquin, Mercado.

Two Ks and a web gem to start the game.

Eight pitch walk for JRam, who is having a good start to this game.

Carlos actually pulls a pitch for an RBI double.
