2021 53-Man Roster Cut Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Goss
Do we actually have that much good OL depth? I don't see us with a good b/u center, and Hudson definitely has a long way to go at LT. We'll probably keep Dunn. So who else is there? Forbes seems like a non-entity.

Browns will probably to waive 6 of these 8 guys: Dunn, Hance, Harris, Senat, Gossett, Taylor, Forbes, Patterson

Forbes & Patterson would slip through to the practice squad without anyone caring, but seems to me that Harris, Senat, & Gossett would all get some attention from teams than need O-line depth.

I try not to think about Felton as a running back necessarily.

He's going to be the primary kick and punt returner and work in as a backup slot WR/gadget guy offensively. I don't see many scenarios where he gets regular RB snaps barring crazy injury issues.

I consider Felton a more versatile version of JoJo Natson (who made the team out of camp last year).

It's a small sample size of course, but D'Ernest Johnson averaged 5.0 YPC last year in spot duty and is also a significant special teams coverage guy. I would be very surprised if he got cut.

I think there's room for both.

Felton is just a "weapon."

Wherever he is listed on the depth chart doesn't really matter, IMO.

Call it 4 RB, call him the 6th WR, he's likely to be on your game-day roster every week at some point.

I think Dunn and Hubbard are good depth. They are not starting quality, but that is why they are backups. Blake Hance and Nick Harris leave a lot to be desired, but neither should play outside of a serious emergency.

I think the Browns have a really deep offensive line, but like any team, the more starters you lose and the more dramatic the decline.

In all fairness to Nick Harris, he's really a guy who is only capable of playing center and unfortunately for him he's only taken 43 live game reps at C since he's been with the Browns (last week's preseason game at Jacksonville).

He's not a guard, he's never going to be a guard, and I don't think his significant struggles last year playing RG should be held against his potential future at center.

Not only is it small sample size, but also is basically because of 1 game.

He had 13 for 95 vs Dallas, after Chubb got hurt. Now 13 for 95 is obviously great, but Dallas was 30th in yards per rush against last year and the Browns had the best OLine in football. In the rest of his games, he had 20 carries for 71 yards. In the other 4 games where Chubb was hurt, he had 15 carries and 2 catches on 3 targets.

Perhaps I am overrating RB depth in the league, but I'd guess there are lot of practice squads RBs that could have a good game vs a bad run defense behind the Browns line and then be used sparingly for 4 games. I would take a gamble on bringing in a RB the week of a game and getting up to speed in case of an injury. If I can, I'd use a roster spot on an extra DB/OL, rather than looking for that in a practice squad

He was picked on play after play against the Giants, and whenever he saw the field last season.

Seemed like a special teamer who can't really play corner. Buh-bye.

It annoyed me because Newsome was playing outside and in the slot and they just didnt throw to Newsome's guy. They were like why test Newsom when you can just throw to the guy Robert Jackson is not covering, lol

Honestly, I think I like Patterson a bit better than Harris at this point, but I'm fine with keeping one and getting rid of the other. Doesn't matter to me.

I'm pretty gung-ho about replacing Parkey. If/when we strike a deal for Santoso, can Parkey be waived from the IR? I hope I'm not counting my chickens...

Maybe we replace Weaver with someone who gets cut, Smith probably cut when Fields is healthy. If they keep a 4th TE, that means one less WR probably, i think the keep the 4 RB's and 1 FB....Stanton being kept might make sense since he can play both FB and TE, but not as good of a FB as Janovich.

As much as we like D'ernest, I just can't see us keeping 4 RBs (and I consider Felton a RB and not 1 of the 6 WRs we keep).
