2021 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can't believe Notre Dame allowed someone to be hired away? LSU can't outspend them....

It's the Wild West now. Teams are just gonna start throwing around absurd cash. NFL coach cash. You'll see dudes being hired away from NFL teams shortly.

Here's the crazy thing with these contracts....boosters are signing up to just throw away an insane amount of money if the coach fails.

Like Riley at USC. USC hasn't been a better program than Oregon or Utah in like over a decade if not more.

What if he goes out there and goes 9-3 for three straight years? Now you're on the hook to pay that guy like 70+ million to just go away.

Insane.

Kinda thought LSU was the one team who might lure Urban back.

Now that they're off the table I dunno. I'm gonna assume they called him up and offered him as much money as humanly possible and he said no.

ND was always the team most likely for Urb to go back to, but can they wait till January?

Also, ND has a nonzero chance at the CFP. What happens if they make it?

It's funny reading fan reactions to the Riley vs. Kelly hire.

maybe it's age, but everyone thinks Riley is this amazing, can't miss hire.

Meanwhile Kelly is just a path to mediocrity.

Riley has won zero CFP games. Kelly has. And it's like people forget Kelly has been to the playoffs 3 times? 4?

He's been extremely, extremely successful at Notre Dame.

EDIT: Got one mixed up with Kelly getting them to the title game right before the CFP.

Still, he's been twice and had them in the title game a year prior. That's a lot of success.

As an ND guy, I prefer they promote Freeman to head coach. He's been the main force in their recent improved recruiting classes.

And Kelly obviously had a nice track record overall, but I've personally been anti-him dating back to how he responded to the student videographer death like 9-10 years ago at a practice.

So parted of it is jilted lover, but there is a heavy contingent of OU fans that arent totally upset that Riley left. Riley's offense has gotten worse every year he has been there, capped off with this year when it was pretty shitty. OU had the favorite for the Heisman starting the season at QB who did shit all, and the number 1(?) duo threat QB prospect from last year replace that guy and still the offense struggled a ton. That said Riley was really starting to make his mark bringing in some great recruits, somethign OU is going to miss.

Yea, I mean I think Riley is a really good coach, I'm just sorta confused by the contingent who thinks he's an absolutely amazing hire while Brian Kelly is just a mediocre coach.

Kelly catches hate for not winning a CFP game that Riley doesn't catch for some reason.

And one of those seasons Riley's team absolutely gave the game away. They had Georgia beat and shouldn't have lost that game.
