2021 Game #2 | #3 Ohio State vs. #12 Oregon | September 11th, 2021 @ 12 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Uh, Stroud threw for almost 500 yards today. The offense had over 600 total. He missed some throws, sure, but he wasn't the issue today at all.

Anyway, I know many have already given up on the season, but...Iowa is looking good against Iowa State. Hopefully Iowa runs the table to Indy..

Im honestly not very concerned for the offense.

The defense however is like defcon 1 level of concern.

Penn State is good. Defensively they're elite again.

Purdue I think might be really good. Jack Plummer looks like the truth.

Not saying it should happen, but who are some good young coaches that could be available? Not that anybody wants to see Day get replaced, or think he is overrated and road the wave set by Urban and now the wave has crested. No one really wants to see this, but God forbid it happened, who would be a great choice to lead this program?

Day is not getting replaced. Let's not overreact here.

Stroud missed some throws and made some questionable decisions, but you shouldn’t have to score 40 points every Saturday to win a game at Ohio State. It was no secret that the defense was a major issue last year and it doesn’t look like anything has been done to improve it. With no 1st round DB to shut down a side of the field and no #1 overall caliber pass rusher to unsettle the other QB, it’s a mess. Receivers are running wide open while simultaneously getting gashed on the ground.

Sounds like they are trying to play things safe and limit big plays, but I’m not sure that surrendering extended 99 yard TD drives is somehow better than getting popped for a big play here and there. I don’t think they have a choice other than getting more aggressive and trying to generate more negative plays and hopefully turnovers. Bend but don‘t break only works if you get the not breaking part right. If you are just giving up drives that ultimately result in TDs, you need to try something else.

What the fuck dude

We arent that good. Uconn is the worst team in Div 1 and our offensive line is just awful. The one secret I do have is Purdue has the best WR in the Big Ten in David Bell....yes better than any OSU receiver.

We replace Day with Matt Campbell yet? Or whoever the flavor of the year is?

While there is frustration with all parties, the absolute crap defense we continue to see year after year is going to prevent this team from seriously contending for a championship no matter how good the offense is.

The troubling part is the defense seems to somehow get worse each year.

Agreed. And I’m not really sure what the solution is, combination of scheme and big time recruits (Vincent, Harrison? Etc) not living up to the billing? I’m far from an expert so maybe someone more plugged in can break down what is going on there.

Regardless, this has become a recurring theme with the defense, and this is Ohio State, not Cincinnati. So these are very valid concerns and questions that need to be asked.

Day isn't going anywhere unless he wants to go to the NFL. We can talk about potential defensive coordinators though. Especially ones that can recruit linemen and linebackers.

Under Day, these are the defensive line recruits he's brought in.

Zach Harrison
Noah Potter
Jaden McKenzie
Jacolbe Cowan
Darrion Henry
Ty Hamilton
Jack Sawyer
JT Tuimoloau
Mike Hall
Tyleik Williams

Harrison is a JAG. Sawyer and Tuimoloau are highly regarded, and hopefully they live up to that. I've never even heard of the rest of them. That's not good enough to compete for national championships. That and the D coordinator are what Day needs to fix.
