2021 MLB Draft / College Baseball Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good stuff keep it coming. Love the draft and been poking around in here and on MLB Pipeline. What about that big Wake Forest pitcher who touches 102? Projected right around our 1st Round slot. I like him, Petty, and Bieber Jr. But you can't argue against that 102 GAS.
That's Ryan Cusick, not my type, certainly not in round 1. Control issues and reliever risk. Basically a RHP version of Hentges

@Tondo

In this draft, who would be your first two picks if you could choose and not worry about them signing?

Also the Indians are notorious (in my mind) for drafting underslot with their first pick and overslot with the second one. If we go by this strategy, who would be the early underslot and the second overslot?

And another question... Do you have a rank of the catching prospects? Personally I would like one earlier rather than later in this draft.
Good question on that underslot/overslot thing. I personally don't like that strategy. Why not just go overslot in the 1st and then make up the difference later? If you can't, how bout slot in the 1st?

I'm already leery they're going to take another slap hitting HS SS to try to save money like last year with that kid whose name I haven't even bothered to commit to memory.

McGREEVEY

But back to your question, who would be the underslot/overslot combo particularly with emphasis on the 2nd Round overslot?

Since I pretty much exclude the top 5 or 10 players on most boards, I can't really tell you who my top 2 players are, but Leiter would certainly be one of them.

I gave you a handful of underslot/overslot combinations. Painter/Arroyo might be the lone exception. Usually, CLE doesn't like to spend more than 2.5M on their first pick, most picks in that range were signed between 2M-2.5M. Slot is over 2.9M, so there will be another under/overslot combo for sure, possibly two way over slot. With the draft at 20 rounds there could be a day 3 over slot again (like Korey Holland) or a mid day 2 like Delgado, Hentges, Cairo, but the safest is within the top 3 rounds, because those picks are protected (will be added +1 slot to next draft if player is not signed).

As for C, there are some I like, but generally wouldn't draft one in the top 3 rounds, but add multiple throughout the draft.

From college I like S. Mcguire (San Diego), CJ Rodriguez (Vandy) and L. Hancock (Miss St.)

HS, if signable I'd try to lure Charlie Saum (CA) or A. Aroz (CA) with a bonus around 500K. There's also a PR catcher named L. Torres that looks like a worthwhile flyer.

Would McGreevey work as an underslot guy in the 1st?

McGreevey/Schwellenbach is my personal fav combo 1/2.

When it comes to the MLB draft, you never go by position, it's always talent... Best talents are usually at SS....

I understand what’s your saying, but for this team, seeing what we have done in the international free agency picking last 3 years ,and 2 out of the last 3 mlb drafts lots of SS , I would be disappointed if we drafted another pure SS …….You could never go wrong with Pitchers, and I feel we lack power corners , and catching and our system

Yes I understand SS can be move to other positions (Nolan Jones)…That why I said pure SS , I hope this team don’t reach for a Valdes type pick…

Well you also have to factor in what could be called "signability" as well... Sometimes you cannot always get the best player, but you have to figure who you can sign as well. It's a ton of factors at the end of the day, that if you aren't apart of the team who picks, you wouldn't know all the small details honestly...

PG's Top 500 for the 2021 Draft

Right now, I can see all 500 without subscription, maybe it's a glitch. I've screenshot the entire thing to make sure and have it ready for the draft, haha

when it comes to talent.. the Indians seldom reach.. if they're going to reach at all..it will be on a signability concern as related to spreading their alotted draft budget from a higher pick to one or more lower picks.. even so.. the guys they pick have what the Tribe wants...

I.O.W... Talent will out..

I feel like the Indians reach the most in the 1st round... But try to go above slot in the comp/2nd round...

Anyone know if we're interested in that bopper from Chagrin Falls? Saw he has most potential power in the draft.
