The word Leonard used is really not in common use anymore.

I was in the Army and one hears every slur imaginable coming from the mouths of folks from all over the country and world.

I don't think I heard that word more than once in six years.

Very odd.

But also, indefinite suspension is a lot for something that was not aimed at anyone in particular, and was more or less a slip of the tongue during trash talk which most everyone engages in during games.

There is an iota difference.

Suspend him for five games or something.

I felt like I heard it on a daily basis when I was deployed.

The word is so uncommon that anyone who uses it can’t simply plead ignorance.

You have to go out of your way just to know the meaning of the word. Then you have to go even further out of your way to use it the way Meyers Leonard used it.

How can you even play dumb after that? How?

Holy shit, would you stop acting like it's a word that hasn't been used in 200 years? Did they stop using American History X to teach? Its like none of you grew up in a smaller middle American predominately white town. Learning swear words and racial slurs was pretty much the norm. Whether you understood what the word meant, or where it came from was irrelevant. It was a new insult you could say to your friends. Take your SJW shit elsewhere.

It was used in “Porky’s”:

”It’s not ‘kite’ ... You’re too stupid to even be a bigot.”

Old film though - nice view of a bottomless Kim Cattrell back when she was really hot.

So anybody who doesn't think growing up in a small middle America town gives them an excuse to be racist is a SJW?

And for the record Meyers Leonard came from a wealthy family. After his dad died he was basically adopted by another wealthy family. So that whole small town bull jive ain't gonna fly.

He knew what he was doing and he doesn't need people to make excuses for him.

Being totally serious, i havent heard the word Ki$% in years, weird to me you heard it so much. Its not a word Members of the Tribe use, really ever, and no one calls is that in joking. I am not saying it isnt used, just giving you the Jewish perspective.

Let's be real. Being overseas in the middle east where you hate anyone that isn't American, it was common. Huge difference between 2001-2003 than now. Huge difference being on a military base rather than stateside.

Now back to hoping for aliens to wipe us and our feelings out.

I first saw this word as a child while reading Mad magazine.
I never actually heard anyone use it in the 60's or 70's when I grew up here in Ohio. It's derived from the German word for "circle".

Just for the record, and i only speak for myself, i dont think the K word is nearly as offensive as the N word. While both shouldnt be said, i think the fact it is soooo much less common really takes allot of the hurtful power away from the word. I am not speaking for my community though, and i havent really talked to many others about incuding my family, its just not the same level for us.

It's good that you're even speaking up about it. Sharing your experience and opinion is always welcome with these topics.

I mean, that's better than being told to shut the fuck up and to get out of your feelings.

I am just not easily offended, i do think Meyers has issues and wouldnt be a guy i would want to hang out with, but the hatred toward Jews in America is just not as impactful both financially or physically as the hatred towards Blacks in America and too lump them together i think does a disservice to how much work is left for equality and getting rid of the hate.

I am not advocating toward hate of my religion, and i am pretty sure Meyers is a piece of shit, but impact matters to me.

So we're going to pretend that the guy who was the only player to stand during the anthem in the bubble while everyone else kneeled during the height of the racial tensions this past summer and he happens to be the same guy that as recently as January 6th this year released a statement explaining why he stands for the anthem claiming to be patriotic and not tolerating any forms or racism and hate speech didn't know what he was doing when he used a hateful word that has not even been used regularly or as often in society since WWII??????

You mean to tell me he didn't know??????

But he knew what he was doing when he went on his media tour telling anybody who listed why he stands for the anthem and that he doesn't tolerate hate speech. he knew that shit but he didn't know what he was doing while he was playing a video game?

If the man didn’t want to kneel during the anthem that is his right and does not make him a racist. The American flag represents many great things to a lot of people, especially from the military. After having moved to Europe and living in countries such as Luxembourg and Holland who’s counties were liberated from one of the worst regimes in history through the blood of American soldiers, you can get a real feel of what the flag represents to a lot of people. The American flag does not represent racism and let’s not forget a majority of the country fought and died on the side that ended slavery.

Deciding not to kneel because of social pressure is un American. I’m sure most of us are against racism but it’s our freedom to fight it in our own ways and not conform just because certain group such as BLM (who I am not a fan of) tell us to do so. I personally see kneeling as a sign of submission, never really understood the point.

I doubt a guy who plays basketball for a career, a sport dominated by African Americans is secretly a KKK member. Doesn’t make sense to me.

And to the “kike” incident, I think the dude just said something stupid online while playing a video game. If he had directly said it to a Jewish person then of course we should all be outraged. Just fine him, educate him why it was not appropriate and we all move on with our lives.

This will be seen as soft on Leonard..

We are what we repeatedly do. Leonard has been a physically gifted under achiever in the NBA, and apparently has some maturity issues.. He must be living under a rock, not to know that his expression on a public stream would not go viral..

We live in a country intolerant of ethnic intolerance. This is actually a core premise of the US, that ALL men ( in the sense of the species) are created equal.. And so each of us has the right to be treated with the same respect. An equally important premise is that we are also fundamentally a country of diverse ideas, and we are free to express our ideas regardless of whether or not others agree with us..

I am OK to some extent with the public censure of offensive terms, provided they are not limiting the expression of ideas. In no way can we interpret "f* you ki..." as an expression of any idea but an epithet intended to offend someone else.. So I think he should get slammed for that, but not ruined. He deserves a chance to learn from this mistake and rehab..

As for kneeling, this is not the same thing. There are a lot of very reasonable good citizens who believe the flag represents good things. The choice to stand or kneel lies with them, and they can choose to say why or not.. public shaming or group intimidation to conform is every bit as bad for the country as racism is.. That is how you get nazis..

My ancestors were not enslaved by Americans ( although some were effectively enslaved by Britain and persecuted by France..) But I am free because my ancestors fled here, with the idea that they would be free of that shit.. Thay all gave up lives,, culture's, families to come here and they risked everything in the process.. Many fought in wars, and some died trying to keep it free. So the premises of equality and free expression are important to me.. Thus I respect both those who choose to stand and those who choose to kneel, because it is their right o do so..

Oh don’t get me wrong I think he’s an idiot, and to say something like that on a live stream is beyond stupid. I just personally don’t think he meant it in an anti Semitic way context matters with these incidences imo. 100% agree with you’re points. I was mentioning the anthem because I felt others were using the fact that he didn’t kneel during the anthem as evidence that he’s racist, which I don’t think is fair.

To your points yes the American way of thinking is that all men(women) are created equal. Unfortunately slavery still exists in certain parts of the world, along with totalitarian regimes and so on. So even though America definitely has embarrassing and unforgivable periods in its history. I agree it should be your right to refuse to kneel at the anthem without being vilified.

Frankly I agree with the NBA on their handling of this, players shouldnt be using racial slurs, even in jest and surely not out of anger. Maybe Meyers needs to find another hobby if this is what it makes him say.

It shows the difference in pro sports leagues in America, though, that Leonard gets disciplined for using this word yet a bigleaguer formerly with the Dodgers and now with the Red Sox uses it as his nickname but no one seems to care, I guess bc he pronounces it differently. Just wierd.
