If Brad Stevens gets fired in Boston, should the Cavs make a run at him? I saw a short segment today that Stephen A thinks he's on a short leash.

If not Brad Stevens, who? Our current coach doesn't seem to be the man we thought he was.
If they cut him, I will be so entertained by the reactions of all the Boston fans. So insufferable

I don't believe that's the case. Given the hard cap rules, I think only teams under the cap could have actually claimed Drummond / Aldridge / Griffin and taken on their contracts. And since most of those teams are not competing for a championship, taking on Drummond at $30 million is a massive negative asset that would make no sense for them.

I don't think buyouts are a major issue. Contending teams have the opportunity to add an extra piece that's likely washed and doubtful to swing their championship odds in a meaningful way. But I do think the rules can be adjusted to limit teams to one buyout addition per season and/or include a player's pre-buyout salary on a team's cap sheet.
One possible change would be to have a “sealed auction” for a player who is bought out. Every team interested in the player submits a sealed bid to the NBA. Highest bid gets the player. Buyout team gets the offset. This means the players aren’t UFAs but they shouldn’t get to that status just because they suck anyway.

It also means no buyout negotiation. Player gets full salary, it’s just a question of which team pays him.

I would allow winning bid team to keep Bird Rights.

If there are ties then I’d let player decide.

Competitive balance in the league? When has that ever happened? LeBron went to the Finals eight straight times. It’s a superstar driven league. Buyouts of aging stars are a very minor factor.
It’s really not minor because it allows big market teams to circumvent the salary cap. Now the Lakers and Nets (if these players work out) can exceed their cap space to keep them next year. So they just added valuable pieces to their championship core that normally wouldn’t have been in a position to do.

Is that right? I thought I heard on NBA TV they could brought back next year with “little to no impact on their cap”!
Did I not hear that right?

Well, they could bring him back at the vet minimum IF he was willing to sign that kind of deal. But they absolutely do not get his Bird rights.

Why is it okay for Durant to be completely homophobic and racist and nothing gets said, but if Rapaport still had a job and the situation was flipped he’d be cancelled?
Because the owner of the Nets doesn’t think that keeping Durant on the roster is bad for business.

I’m talking about the media specifically.

Stephen A. Says Rapaport broke street code for exposing him in private DMs. He said Durant is immature. How about we say he’s racist and a homophobe.

Its all bullshit. If he were a white player, even if you were Luka/Bird level, it would not be okay. He would be vilified by the media in a major way.

The media is not a singular entity.

Regarding Stephen A, he must not think it’s good for business to light Durant up on this.

That’s what everything boils down to, right? What’s good for business.

Nobody really likes Rapaport, so it’s open season on him. Nobody wants to defend him.

I just don't like the double standards all around. If we as a society are going to be calling all white racist women "Karen" are we going to start calling all black racist or homophobic or misogynistic men "Kevin"?

Everything you're saying is 100% correct.

Take this ish to the politics forums man. We don’t want to read it.

This is the around the NBA thread and it's what is currently happening that no one is really talking about. Didn't Durant do something similar before with burner accounts? I don't recall what he said, but I believe it was something similar. But let's not talk about.......because FEEELINGGSS.
