NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Feel bad for Matty Ice. No idea what the Falcons' plan was heading into this season. You draft Pitts instead of Sewell, but then you trade Julio and keep Ryan. They very much seem like a rudderless ship at the moment.
Yup. Like, I could see them foolishly saying "Well, let's draft Pitts because he's the BPA, and kick the QB/OL can down the road. Ryan with Pitts/Ridley/Julio should be enough to keep us entertaining. Let's see what happens."

I can also see them doing the smart thing and drafting their next franchise QB.

I could also see them keeping Ryan, Julio and Ridley together while drafting Sewell because OL play a long time and he can last them into their next rebuild.

What they chose to do just doesn't make sense.

The obvious move to me if you're sticking with Matt Ryan is to keep Julio and draft Sewell to keep him upright, as Ryan at this point is basically a statue in the pocket, and he was never known for his mobility in the first place. Now, maybe things were beyond repair with Julio and they had to move him, but if that's the case, why the fuck are you trotting Matt Ryan out there?

If the plan was to move on from Ryan, you take Fields or Jones and start building for the future. You can still trot Matt Ryan out there this season as the meat shield so you don't break your shiny new QB if you knew the offensive line was going to be that atrocious, although drafting Fields would have mitigated that somewhat since he can make things happen with his legs.

Drafting Pitts, trading Julio, and then keeping Ryan, though? What the fuck kind of plan is that?

And, as talented as Pitts might be, I think taking a TE in the top ten is just stupid. Drafting him there, he basically has to become the greatest TE in the NFL to justify the opportunity cost, whereas if you draft Sewell and he's merely a good LT instead of generational, you can live with that.

What a joke. I mean you'd be stupid not to see that coming but one game? My goodness.

Watch him go to USC.

I'm fairly certain that tweet is a joke

Who knows anymore. I can see how it might be a joke but also not.

The account has a lot of parody but usually a tweet with sources and quote with a blue check isn't obviously fake news but my joke radar might be off.

I assume it's a joke but I have no idea.

Blue checks just mean they are who they say they are. So yeah, it's the Twitter of the college football subreddit. What are the odds that a mod over there is breaking news from "sources"?

I also assume it's a joke, but I would be shocked if Urban is still coaching the Jags next year. That team legit might not win a game. They looked like an absolute shit show yesterday.

If this helps…

That said, there are worse landing places than USC for Urbs, but the checks are great in Jacksonville and he won’t spend another minute recruiting.

Do you think coaching a power 5 team is harder than the NFL?

I have thought about it before, both have their plusses and minuses.
