What was the game plan? Throw the White Sox hitters belt-high fastballs? They hit four home runs and ALL were on pitches right at the top of the zone, which was where Hentges was calling for the ball. Really, Civale? You think your 91 mph fastball plays at the top of the zone? Think again.
I was impressed by the rookie relievers (Mejia, Allen, and Perez) who combined for 5.1 scoreless innings. Mejia retired Eloy Jimenez, Tim Anderson, Moncada, Abreu, and he K'd Grandal. Very nice.
Allen struck out four hitters in two innings, including Eloy, Moncada, and Grandal.
Francisco Perez struck out Luis Robert and Leury Garcia in a 1-2-3 inning. Perez has now pitched 5.1 scoreless innings after getting roughed up in his major league debut. I don't want to jump the gun but this guy looks very good. All three hitters he retired were hitting right-handed.
Bobby Bradley with another home run. That's 16 in 218 at-bats. That's over 40 when projected to a full season. His OPS is close to .800 after today.
