Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just listened to the Hamilton call of Bauers's HR. His unprofessionalism is becoming an issue.
Wow, what did he say? Can't say I'm surprised though since he seems to harbor legitimate animosity towards Bauers for whatever reason.

Just listened to the call. The line about "he's done nothing up until this point" was completely gratuitous. As great of a set of pipes as he may have, Hamilton is almost unlistenable these days with his cantankerous act and refusal to incorporate literally any stats that aren't batting average, HR, RBI, pitcher wins/losses and ERA.

He’s just spitting facts
Seemed like an unnecessary jab after a big HR, and maybe I'm different, but I don't tune in to hear announcers trash talk the players on the field. Very unprofessional, in my opinion.

Also, I'm not saying he'll keep it up, but Bauers has actually been playing well over the last few weeks.

I'm a stickler for, well, everything... but I didn't really mind that quip. It's true--Jake hasn't done shit this year.

If he wanted to drag him through the mud, he could've gone on about how everyone is shocked that Jake Bauers, of all people, hit a home run, or something like that. "Well folks, enjoy it. Because at this rate, it will be another 30 games before you see that again" would be a super shitty quip in the moment.

I'm not saying that throwing in the "he hasn't done anything" isn't extra, it just didn't feel out of place to me. :conf (11):

That's also the first time I think I've listened to a Hammy call this year.

Yeah, I don't listen to him much because I think he's overall just not good at his job, but I hear the clips occasionally on social media.

It's probably just a nothing burger, don't mind me. He does hate Bauers though, this much we know :chuckle:

It's fair. I also think I have a low bar for announcers.

If you get someone who's actually knowledgeable on the sport, like Tony Romo, that's a rare treat. I expect the announcer to be a dolt with a pretty voice, like Hammy. As long as it's not some insufferable dimwit like Booger McFarland, I'm fine.

I mean, his hatred of Bauers has been talked about on here quite a bit. I don't think that's really up for debate. He trashes him constantly.

He was trashing him literally 15 seconds earlier in the at bat :chuckle:

To give context, the two pitches right before the HR were fastballs right down the middle and Bauers was late on both and Hamilton stressed how overmatched he's been all year on fastballs.

So.....should the radio announcer NOT offer any criticism of the hometown players? I know announcers that don't. In fact, those type of announcers don't say anything bad about their club/team/program or the players for it. I know some prefer that.

I don't want my announcer to consistently bash my team, but saying that Jake Bauers has had a hard time catching up to a fastball all season is.......not bashing, but just plain truth.......

Now, there may be an argument for a consistently negative message coming from the announcer toward a specific player, which IMO is unnecessary and something I wouldn't want to hear either.

Living out of state, I don't get to hear much of Hammy. I've always enjoyed his calling of the game, even in the midst of his penchance for 'truthtelling'.

I don't think it's wrong at all for announcers to criticize players. Hamilton doesn't criticize Bauers as much as he just hates him.

Still, me thinking Hamilton is not good at his job has nothing to do with him being negative or positive, and everything to do with him providing no real insights.

Basically, all he does is wait to make HR calls.

"Big moment for Bauers, who had really done nothing until this point"

was a big "give it a rest, Tom" moment for me :chuckle:

I think you agree I am not a hater, but it was a big moment for Bauers along with the great defensive play in the 9th to end the game, because up until that game last night, he had done nothing all season and was in danger of being sent to the alternate site, probably still is. I dont have a problem with it, but i know very little about Tom Hamilton.

Bauers has not played well over the past few weeks. No excuse for his boneheaded base running blunder killing a rally making the third out at third base. Nor is there any excuse for standing on first base after a mile high pop up was dropped by Moncada. As far as him being criticized, he's a professional athlete and as such, poor performance is going to get criticized.

I don't think he'll keep it up, but he's hitting .276/.364/.448 over the last three weeks (16 games played for him). In my book, that's playing well. I hope he's turning it around, even if it's in a part-time role. We need all the help we can get!

I really don't care if he's criticized. Hamilton just moans and groans about him though. Who wants to listen to that? He doesn't even provide any insight into Bauers's typical suckitude.

I didn’t realize people didn’t like Tom Hamilton.
