2021 Series #17 | White Sox @ Indians | May 31-June 2, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Peculiar that they canceled today's game at 1130am, before any rain. The forecast looked to me like they could maybe get it in and neither team has big travel scheduled. The tribe is off Thursday and the Sox are back home. It helps us after four games in two days, but was still a questionable call.

Yeahhh, Major League Baseball has been very quick to cancel games this year... not even just Cleveland. After that initial batch of rain, we're just expecting maybe some very light on and off drizzle until after sunset. You're telling me you couldn't play in between that?

Commonly held belief around the league that MLB will announce a punishment for players caught overtly using substances, with no retroactive punishment for the bevy of players who have been caught on camera thus far.

Short of something egregious, of course.

Yeah, that's where I'm at too. I think there will be punishments for any tack combos that were clearly not formed by a string of league approved items (bullfrog sunscreen and rosin guys won't get shit), such as Bauer's secret Coca-Cola concoction.

I don't think there will be suspensions or bans (more than half of the league would be suspended), but I can see hefty fines for those cases. I actually think the MLB league office purposefully told players they won't get in trouble this year so they can get a wider range of studies on substances done and having the players act like they have been is the best way to accomplish that.

I fully believe the industry belief that the MLB is going to study all of this and come up with a league approved substance that pitchers can use but that doesn't egregiously change their stuff. 1st year teams have had to surrender certain analytics to the league office, so some kind of real-time policing system is coming for guys who try to use something outside of that IMO.

So....in summary....

The punishment for using a "sticky"substance will be anything from lining players against a wall with the firing squad ready to shoot.. or the issuance with a wink and a nod to use one and all substances at the total and complete discretion of the players.. with an evaluation and tightening of the rule to come AFTER the new CBA is negotiated..

..of course.. the punishment will likely, but not certainly, be somewhere in between..

thoughts?...

I wonder if MLB will license the approved substances, so that they can be sold to amateur pitchers....lol.

So the new policy to end illegal foreign substances may end up being the legalization of foreign substances.

THAT will fix the seeming problem.

Maybe MLB can then approve certain brands of cork for bats. Albert Belle can apply to get his brand of cork licensed and thereby legalized.

Bureaucracy, you gotta love it.

Obviously this is another ploy by Indians management in gaming the system. 2 bogus postponements this week. Whereby Lance Lynn versus a rookie starter might look to be unfavorable, keep in mind that on September 23rd, Eloy Jiminez will be playing instead of Vaugn and Leon Robert will be playing for Billy Hamilton.

Maybe because they figure kicking the game later into the season makes increased attendance more likely as folks feel more comfortable attending games?

And we'll have Franmil, Plesac and Berto, hopefully, not to mention Mitch Haniger.

Actually I just read a column that said injuries are at ridiculously high levels so far this season so who knows who the hell will be playing by late September.

The Mariners are 3 and half games out of 1st in the west (28-28), and 3 games behind the tribe (30-24). About 2 months to the deadline, so a lot can change.. For everyone.

I completely agree, this gathering of game balls is all to collect data to define what will be allowed and what will not be, and language defining it added to the upcoming CBA.
