2021 Series #30 | Rays @ Indians | July 22-25

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hedges has a cannon and Quantrill is throwing a damn nice game against a good offense. Hats off to him.

This is where CATS and I may have a different view if I'm understanding him correctly. I don't think that selling off any of Cesar, Eddie, Wittgren, Shaw, Luplow, and excess MIF prospects removes the chances of being competitive this season. In fact, I believe that this team could be improved in the "here and now" and going forward. I'd have to see the return(s).
Of course it would come down to the return for any/all of those guys.. When it comes to short timers, though... expectations always need to be tempered.... We'll see...

I expect little in a return for any of Cesar, Eddie, Wittgren, or Shaw unless they 1) absorb a large portion of their salaries or 2) include a good prospect/player.

So you want to complicate things.. I likey...

I think we can do both an add and subtract while still competing... We can subtract Eddie, Wittgren, Parker, DJ Johnson, etc while adding Francisco Perez, Maybe Chafin (from the Cubs) and a position player (aka likely an OF) that's MLB blocked that we swap a couple prospects for, type of thing then we see what happens down the stretch...

yeah..he took a rather ODD route to where the ball wasn't.. was made to look pretty bad..

Six outs to get.. Clase comes in to show these ray-babies what heat looks like...

Keep in mind that every young guy who has come up to replace a vet position player has outperformed that position player. Bradley over Bauer. Zimmer and Mercado over Luplow and Ben Gamel. We haven't even had Eddie full strength for weeks now. You trade out Shaw/Wittgren for Francisco Perez/Kyle Nelson, Cesar for Owen Miller or Gimenez, it's far less than certain we regress. The youth in a sprint to the finish could have the effect of galvanizing the team and infusing it with some energy. Cesar, Eddie, etc. are here collecting checks.

Bradley is 284 days younger than Bauers. Not sure how you can call one guy young and the other a vet.

Mercado and Zimmer have not been anywhere near as good as Luplow.

Ben Gamel had 14 at bats for the Indians. As a Pirate, he has been much better than Mercado and Zimmer.

Kyle Nelson has been terrible in the major leagues this year

Luplow was hitting .175. This is Bradley's first extended time in the league. Whereas Bauer has played previous full seasons.

Other than that, you are spot on.

Rays down to their last three outs..

Luplow: .769 OPS, +112 wRC, .337 wOBA
Zimmer: .688 OPS, +99 wRC, .319 wOBA
Mercado: .678 OPS, +83 wRC, .295 wOBA

Yes Luplow has the lowest batting average by far, but I typically look at the stats that Major League Baseball front offices value much higher than batting average.
