2021 Series #33 | Indians @ Blue Jays | Aug. 2-5

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Springer lead off homer second consecutive night. Do the Indians not do scouting reports?

There’s absolutely no benefit to keep running Mejia out there…

Our SP options in Columbus are...

Logan Allen.

Or, if willing to lose a player on the 40 man...Brad Peacock and his 13.50 ERA.

Or, we could go back to Hentges, who has already elicited the same comments we have seen in this thread in re Mejia.

Or maybe adopt the Rays’ use of multiple pitchers for just two innings each.

I mentioned this after seeing him in person...Bradley looks very good defensively. Now, if he could only make fairly consistent contact...

JC Mejia is in the 18th percentile in average exit velocity, 5th percentile in max exit velocity, 7th percentile in HardHit %, 14th percentile in xwOBA, 14th percentile in xERA, 12th percentile in xBA, 23rd percentile in xSLG, 12th percentile in Whiff %, 43rd percentile in chase rate, 39th percentile in fastball velocity, 22nd percentile in fastball spin… I mean, there’s seriously not a single encouraging stat.

Per the broadcast.. This is Mejia’s 4th time in 11 starts giving up 6 or more runs. Not good…

Or Cody Morris

Its a tough crowd, or uniquely unreasonable conviction, to label Cookies lesser seasons as average to mediocre without context.

In his first season in the rotation, 2011, he pitched much of the season with a sore arm that led to TJS in September.

In 2013 in his comeback from surgery he only threw 46.2.

Over those two partial seasons his FIP was fairly average, about 4.20.

In 2014 he spent time in the pen before rejoining the rotation. From the beginning of that season until his cancer his ERA+ by year was...

153
119
136
139
128

In his cancer season it was still 91.

And in his return to the rotation in 2020 it was 159.

Those numbers are not merely average, let alone mediocre. He ranged from 20% to 60% better than the average MLB pitcher...except in his cancer year, when he was 10% below average.

Worst turning DP Indians middle infielders I have ever seen………
