No matter how bad things are going we still own the Tigers. Second place, baby!
Plesac had his best outing since returning from injury with 7.2 innings, 2 earned runs, 0 walks, and 9 K’s. He consistently got ahead of the hitters. 74 of his 101 pitches were strikes. Very nice, especially after going only four innings against this team in his last start. He made an adjustment and so far it’s working.
It seems like whenever the Indians have a good offensive game it’s because the bottom of the order steps up big time. Tonight was no different; the 6-9 hitters combined for three home runs, a triple, a single, two SAC flies, and 6 of the 7 RBI’s. Kudos to Miller, Chang, Hedgie, and Clement. All but Hedgie spent time in Columbus this year.
Speaking of Clement, that was an awesome power display. I was waiting to see him flex and point at his bicep ala’ La Mole after the second dinger.
Rick Manning had the best line of the night when he said all these people are here to see #500 and instead they get #1 and #2.
You gotta feel for Franmil. He finally got to play right field and he got ejected after his second at-bat. Back to DHing for you, big fella.
At one point the Indians had Straw on third, Josie on second, and Zimmer on first. That’s an insane amount of speed on the bases. Unfortunately there were two out and Mercado lined a one-hopper to short to end the inning. That’s the third game in a row Oscar has lined out to the shortstop.
You know the Tigers are in trouble when their #5 hitter comes in batting .188 with 3 home runs. But he hit one off Karinchak, who has been awful recently. After posting a 7.36 ERA in July he's at 4.50 in August. First he walks the leadoff hitter in the 9th with a five-run lead, then gives up a gopher to a guy hitting .180. To be fair, that was a 95 mph fastball on the inside corner at the upper edge of the zone. It was not right down the middle. I think the guy got a little lucky.
