2021 Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lot of people trying to talk the FO out of gaming his service time to start the year. He is the most MLB ready SS in camp by far, and he is an absolute joy to watch field.

Came over here to talk about the same thing on service time. I know it’s early, but how do you deny this guy service time after the Seattle comments?

Also, does he have a bit of pop to the bat or are the winds blowing out today? Unless Chang gets going, Rosario is stuck as utility guy. As I said before, Rosario should be grabbing an outfield glove to either be super utility guy or beat out Mercado/Zimmer for center.

Josh Naylor pounds two doubles today, driving in three.

I know you mean of the young SS’s, but what do you do with A. Rosario? Are you suggesting he should be the utility guy? Or go to another position (like CF)?

First of all, it IS early. Second of all, what do Mather's comments have to do with the Tribe or anyone else? The CBA is the CBA...the time to address this issue is during negotiations this winter. And if you think veterans are just clamoring for guys to come up earlier, you're nuts. There are a lot of dimensions to this, not the least of which is competitive balance. Forcing smaller markets to give up guys earlier or prematurely promoting them has serious implications that need to be resolved at the negotiating table, not overreacting to some dumbass comments at a Rotary Club luncheon.

Even Rosario is still young himself, but yes.

Rosario is a negative at SS, defensively. But I like him for the utility spot more than Chang and Clement.

If this team is building itself to prevent teams from scoring more than relying on outscoring their opponents, it makes no sense for Gimenez to start anywhere but the MLB level.

I don't see how Chang is still on the 40 man after ST ends if this team plans on adding three NRI relievers (Parker, Shaw and Perez) to the opening day roster. Clement makes sense as the utility infielder to start the year if/when Gimenez is in AAA for service time manipulation and Rosario at least starts the year at SS.

With the depth system wide at SS and middle infield, there is no reason to start Gimenez in the minor leagues. The Indians need to start the season on April 1st with their best potential lineup. I would get Amed Rosario innings in the outfield during the spring to provide another possible option.

I suspect Tito will want an 9 man bullpen/ 13 man staff to start the season & a 14 man pitching staff once the 5th starter is added after the 1st couple of weeks in the season (3 off days in 1st two weeks)..

That would allow for another LHP (beyond Ollie Perez) & someone able to go multiple innings (ie Logan S. Allen/ Sam Hentges)..

If I remember correctly isn't there a limit on pitchers at 13? The Indians arent keeping above 13 pitchers outside of double headers anyways.

that's correct.

another day.. another double digit number of hits.. without a lot of 3 run homers.. being able to string together safeties is going to have to be the way this team scores..especially with the bottom of the order..

nice to see Billy Hamilton was in mid-season form...

Have never been impressed by Royce Lewis. Too much Tim Beckham in his game.

But yes, there is a reason why a lot of Padres scouts brought up Tatis Jr. comps when talking about Arias. Power needs to remain for that to hold true, cause he has the rest of it.
Can't wait to buy the shit out of his rookie cards then lol

Camelback ranch is right up there two Lee

I went, it was nice, I guess since Comisky is the worst park in baseball its hard for me to think of a whitesox park that is any good.

PS, my favorite is Wrigley, and for me there isnt a close 2nd.

With the ridiculous depth at SS in the system is even necessary to worry about Gimenez's service time in a season where they intend to compete and he's clearly the best option?

With no AAA season, not much excuse to keep Gimenez down just to manipulate his service time.

Hypothetically, of course, if he wins the job.

Hell yeah! Do you know if they see him as a starter or reliever?

I know it's early and a lot of things can happen, but is anyone else getting the feeling that Indians' pitchers are a little ahead of the curve, or is just me?
