2022-2023 NBA Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
via Brad Callas @ Yahoo!

Nearly six years later, Paul George shed more light on how the deal fell through on an episode of Podcast P with Paul George. “I thought I was gonna go to Cleveland,” George shared. “Cleveland was close to getting me with ’Bron there.” According to George, Dahntay Jones, a former teammate and friend of LeBron, played the role of middleman, and took Paul to LeBron’s house to finalize the deal in person. “I’m chopping it up with ’Bron, like ‘Yo, how can we make this work?’” George recalled. “We’re trying to figure it out; he’s going back to [Cavs management], telling them how to get me. So I’m thinking like, ‘Oh, OK, we might make this happen. I might be with ’Bron over here in Cleveland.’”
That close.

It was done. Griff sealed the deal on the way out of town. Dan’s ego couldn’t take it, that his soon to be ex GM would get credit for the deal. He killed it.

I have that from literally the best source possible on the matter….
Utter insanity.

I've repeatedly seen 2 iterations of this trade, that we were moving Love (which makes more sense) or Kyrie...the latter asking out was attributed to him finding out that the Cavs were including him in talks.

Which is it?

Who's the all rookie team this year?

Jalen Williams - Bennedict Mathurin - Keegan Murray - Paolo Banchero - Walker Kessler?

Not totally convinced on Benn, I think the other four are locks though.

Other shout outs:
Tari Eason, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Mark Williams (was pretty damn productive, but was limited in minutes and games), AJ Griffin (was okay as a rotation player, lit it up from three for a stretch and notched multiple game winning shots), Jeremy Sohan, Ochai Agbaji (has put together solid games from game 60 to the end of the year), Jabari Smith (was underwhelming, but had moments, probably the most underwhelming rookie in terms of position drafted aside from the elusive Chet), I'm definitely missing some player shout outs.

This draft class had a good showing. Kessler had a far more impactful year by the metrics, Keegan has the rookie three point record on a top 3 seed in the West, Jalen Williams has put up 50+ percent from the field, nearly 1.5 steals a game, and just really good all around numbers , but Paolo will probably win Rookie of the Year.

Fuck is that true? Could have cost us a championship.

We got literally nothing of value except the NJ pick for Kyrie, who was then considered a top 10-15 player in the league. Madness that there are people who still defend that trade. It would have been like Utah trading Mitchell for one unprotected FRP and that’s it

Hey man we got a allstar straight from the mines of Moria

I had to go back to look at an old post to jog my memory. But here’s how the PG13 situation played out.

-Dan offers Griff a huge raise to stay
-Griff, knowing it will never happen, tells Dan sure, but only if you put in writing you won’t interfere with any basketball decision.
-Dan says GTFO
-Griff, still having a month on his contract, negotiates the trade for PG13. Love is the main piece going out.
-Dan says hell no, kills the deal
-Griff is now out of the picture, Dan/Koby re-engage on PG13. They negotiate a 3 way with Kyrie headed to Phoenix. BUT Dan goes to Lebron and demands a commitment to stay in order to pull the trigger on the deal. Lebron says no.
-Deal is off

I was going to say I always thought the reason the trade didn't happen was lebron wouldn't commit to stay. Looks like just one of the reasons

Well, if this is all true it makes it seem more like Lebron’s fault. Also makes the 2018 season seem like a more fitting punishment for him, having to singlehandedly carry us to the Finals without any help.

TBH I always felt Lebron would have stayed if we had put the right team around him but this is evidence against that I guess

I swore I read on here that Indiana killed it not Dan. Not shocked that it would be him, especially with the giant game of chicken that he and Lebron were playing before it all ended. We knew that it was trending that way and even if we pulled the trigger I doubt it changes anything.

I don't think I make this trade without LeBron's commitment either. We still weren't beating the Warriors with PG. PG was entering his facepalm chucker phase. Glad they did what they did. It's why we're where we are right now.
