First off Rosario is a free agent after next season and we have a ton of guys who are near MLB ready that can replace him like Freeman...

So on paper, moving Rosario for a need (aka a lefty bullpen arm) or going with a mix of 21+ draftees/signees will free up the spot for the guy who is a long term piece, which on paper Rosario isn't...

Now that being stated, I understand where you are coming from. Rosario has become a leader for this young roster so I don't blame some people for wanting to keep him, maybe even extending him. Keeping him wouldn't hurt us on paper in 23...

I will be sincere, it's a high probability we will trade him, but if there isn't a good offer, we will keep him. We aren't going to get rid of him for nothing though, so whatever move we make, it will help the team in some fashion, whether or not he is on or not on the roster.
Coach: Glad to see you recovered from surgery and it doesn’t seem to impede your posting.

Prospect v Production.

we all know that finances drive pretty much everything with the guardians….but, say they don’t. Or say we could get Ahmed on a team friendly deal.

would you take his current production over the prospect of the three up and comers for the next 8 yrs?

if not….how long do you think it will take for any of the three to match his production, which is pretty solid in the 2 hole?

is a bird in the hand truly worth two in the bush?

Freeman doesn't have the speed, but otherwise Freeman should be able to produce on paper at a similar clip... I don't think we would lose much with Freeman everyday at 2B and Gimenez at SS.

Rosario is a weird case, he came up too soon, ended up being considered a bust, but last season he grew up some and I think this year he finally became the player they want him to be when he came up. He has become a respected person in the clubhouse as well, so keeping isn't something anyone would have qualms with on paper.

We all do believe Rosario will be moved and it wouldn't surprise me if he signs an extension/gets a good contract in 24 if he has a great 23. He won't get top money, but will get a solid contract. More than likely Cleveland wants to pay though

It will be interesting to watch Amed the rest of the season especially if he’s figuring out what pitches he can drive rather than serve (ala Michael Brantley). Scouts graded him at 50/55 a power tool so I disagree that he lacks power. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to utilize it. He’s not a small man and he’s at the age when Brantley figured that out.

Please note I’m not comparing him to Brantley as a hitter merely stating Amed isn’t a finished product—there’s more to come.

The extra HR would sure come in handy during the drive for the division.

I get the sense that hitting in the 2-hole Amed feels his job is to get on base and set the table for Hosey, Naylor, etc. So he's been waiting as long as possible on pitches and slapping them to right field.

But this last series he seems to be making more of an effort to pull the ball, to get out in front and do some damage. It will be interesting to see what he does the last two months. I'd like to see him spraying line drives from foul line to foul line and occasionally getting under one and taking it out.

Straw was the same way - as a leadoff hitter he acted like his job was to work deep into the count. He took tons of strikes. Since moving to 9th he is much more aggressive in attacking good pitches to hit earlier in the count and his production is still not great, but it's way up.

I remember early in the season Underwood and Knott reporting how much Tito loved Straw batting leadoff because he took pitches and gave other guys great scouting reports on what pitcher were throwing. Cant help but wonder if Straw took that to heart a little too much as he found himself burred in pitchers counts.

Does anyone know why Valera and Rocchio are still in Akron?

After a slowish start Rocchio has been crushing the ball since mid June.

Valera is the opposite with scorching first three months and has since cooled.

Probably no call ups because of the all the other young guys ahead of them in the pipeline. No need to rush.

Valera was a bit slow to start too, but nothing as stark as Rocchio.

With the promotions of Jones, Ogonz, Benson and even Call (demoted now) you'd think Valera would/could/should have a daily slot in AAA but nope... We trot Oscar Mercado out there instead.

I personally don't care because while we have been seasoning a bunch of guys lately in AAA at times we haven't in the past with some premiere prospects (which they are) and a lot of teams have proven it not always necessary. I believe both Rocchio and Valera would have little to learn at AAA (although the way people rave about that coaching staff, gives me pause). Give them a couple months if that for all I care. I just want all the decent prospects playing so whatever is open and having the teams balanced and with good chemistry. I like AAA for them more when or if they struggle at the majors first go around.

Due to injuries and Covid, Valera has never played more than 86 games in a year (he’s at 86 this year and he played 86 games combined between A+ and AA last year). He’s only played 109 career AA games, so I don’t mind if they leave him there for most of the year.

Hey, is anybody else thinking that maybe we should try to keep Rosario?
