Fwiw, I think the future MIF is Gimenez and Rocchio…. And I don’t think it’s particularly close either.

I know they value defense up the middle but I see no way around having Kwan eventually being the everyday CF. Between Jones, Valera, Benson, Gonzalez, and maybe even guys like Freeman and Miller, that’s a lot of corner OF bats that will need legitimate looks at this level and Valera especially looks like he could be special
As much as I wanted it to be Arias, 100% right.

Anyone playing SS is just keeping the seat warm.

Okay, I'll play along. Say in the offseason, the Brass come to the same conclusion. Does it then make more sense to keep Rosario one more year until Rocchio is ready in 2024(or July 23) and trade Arias at whatever his current prospect value is?

Or does it make sense to trade Rosario in the offseason, allow Arias to gain MLB experience and value, and then trade him once Rocchio is ready?

I always though part of the need/rush to trade Rosario was based on Arias having as 2023 arrival ETA. But if Rocchio is the guy and his arrival ETA is 2024, does that change things a bit?

I think Brayan Rocchio is ready whenever the organization is ready to start his service clock.

I have a feeling that will be next year.

If it weren't for the logjam ahead of him, he'd be in Columbus already. He's only like 250 PA's away from the magical "800 AA/AAA PA's" that I have in my head as the time our organization likes to call people up--and that was pre-COVID.

Shit post but to clear up some 26 and 40 man issues....

A: Freeman, Arias, Rosario ---> one of three to be traded(preference for Rosario)

If Arias wins a muddle INF job in ST, Freeman is super utility guy at 3B, SS, and 2B. If Freeman wins the job, Arias starts at AAA?

B: Gonzalez, Jones, Benson ---> once of the three to be traded

If Benson is not the one traded, he starts at 1B + occasional days in RF and late inning defensive replacement. Naylor primarily DH

C: Reyes, Clement, Miller ---> 2 of the 3 to be traded(strong preference for it to be Reyes and Clement). Miller remains and is backup 1B/PH

Of course, if Straw is either traded or willing/capable of being the 4th OF that can change the dynamic a bit.

Say you end up trading Jones, Rosario, Clement, and Reyes. What’s the most you can get for Jones, Plesac, Rosario, and someone ranked 12-20 in our system?

Then package Reyes/Clement for a reclamation project reliever.

Hey, I said it was a shit post, didn’t I …

Oh for heavens sake not another let's trade Rosario post.
Let's see, he leads the league in hits, hustles his ass off, is a team leader, is tight with Ramirez and Francona loves him. Okay, let's trade him asap and hope we have a replacement.

I am begging you, please just stop. I feel certain Antonetti is trying to extend him. I certainly hope so.

Good grief

Everyone has their own opinion on “who we should keep/who should we trade”. It’s ok to not agree. You want us to keep Rosario. We get it. Others want him gone to unblock the logjam. We get that too. Deep breaths.

If he keeps hitting 450ft bombs, then...

...it's even more likely he gets dealt, this team can't afford to keep guys who do that (outside of Jose, that is). As team ownership and management tell the fans, just enjoy him while he's here.

Who is this "Rosario" everyone is talking about?

Hey @rcristal do you have more than one gear? If not, I am begging you to stop. Good grief.

Hey, did you guys know they’re going to try to trade Rosario this winter?

But, what are we going to do for a future SS ... because don't we want someone who is streaky ... doesn't take a whole lot of walks ... and doesn't have much power? I mean, I guess we could put Freeman there, as a last resort, but his OBP is too high with getting hit all the time. And, his 290+ every season in the minors is just a fluke like Kwan. We know Gimenez won't be as good of SS as Rosario.

If Rosario is traded I would move Gimenez to SS and put Freeman at 2B. Freeman appears to be ready while Arias is still coming back from injury (he's hitting .201 in Columbus in 149 AB's).

I am also fine with keeping Rosario and replacing Clement with Freeman as the UIF (as they have just done).

Rosario could be traded at next year's deadline, assuming either Arias, Freeman, or Rocchio is pounding down the door.
B: Gonzalez, Jones, Benson ---> once of the three to be traded

If Benson is not the one traded, he starts at 1B + occasional days in RF and late inning defensive replacement. Naylor primarily DH
Naylor as the primary DH and he plays first base when Benson gets a day off. No need for Miller with Naylor able to play first and Freeman as the UIF.

Between Gonzalez and Jones I would either go with Gonzalez since he balances out the left- and right-handed bats (and trade Jones), or put Gonzo in left, Jones in right, and Kwan in center. I might go with the latter option. You basically replace Straw's bat with Jones (probably a big improvement), but the trade-off is somewhat less defense in left and center.
C: Reyes, Clement, Miller ---> 2 of the 3 to be traded(strong preference for it to be Reyes and Clement). Miller remains and is backup 1B/PH
Get rid of all three.

Miller hit .400 in April (20-for-50) and .215 since with 3 home runs in 261 AB's. I'm moving on from him and Clement (.203) in favor of Freeman, now that Freeman is over his shoulder injury.

I'm good with Straw as the 4th outfielder and using him as a pinch runner, late inning defensive replacement, and spot starter when Kwan, Gonzo, or Jones needs a day off. Jones has problems hitting lefties so they could start Straw for Jones against LHP's.

First off Rosario is a free agent after next season and we have a ton of guys who are near MLB ready that can replace him like Freeman...

So on paper, moving Rosario for a need (aka a lefty bullpen arm) or going with a mix of 21+ draftees/signees will free up the spot for the guy who is a long term piece, which on paper Rosario isn't...

Now that being stated, I understand where you are coming from. Rosario has become a leader for this young roster so I don't blame some people for wanting to keep him, maybe even extending him. Keeping him wouldn't hurt us on paper in 23...

I will be sincere, it's a high probability we will trade him, but if there isn't a good offer, we will keep him. We aren't going to get rid of him for nothing though, so whatever move we make, it will help the team in some fashion, whether or not he is on or not on the roster.
