Not a good comparison at all. Amed has the requisite skills to being a good defensive 1B. Mainly, he can field grounders well. But since the bar is kind of low and more of a lower leverage position (which IMO is vastly overstated by most), it's hard to be a good first baseman on defense alone. But Amed could be a very fine overall 1B against righties with his 120 wRC+ and speed.

J Naylor can't ever be a CF because he's slow and not great at fielding fly balls. JRam never was a catcher so it makes no sense to convert him into one now when it takes years of learning, and besides his arm is kind of weak.
Naylor can't be a CF because he is slow, but he can be a 1B because he can hit well and has power. Conversely, Amed can be a decent/average SS because he isn't terrible defensively and his bat profiles as average there. No championship caliber team has an Amed Rosario as their 1B for a reason. The idea is absurd just as the idea of Naylor playing CF. There's actual reasons why neither should happen even if those reasons are not the same.

Value = Defensive Contribution + Offensive Contribution

I don't care how you get there. Since Naylor's best Defensive Contribution is likely at 1B, that's how you optimize Naylor...

Amed might be best used at SS or 3B or whatever, but when we have a lot of the MIFs that we have, then you're throwing away some of someone like Arias's value by putting Arias at 1B and Amed at SS. I'm just trying to create the greatest sum of parts here... It's like a math problem.

Are there any 'Donovan Mitchell's' out there that the Guards can swing a blockbuster for? Cash in their Grade A management decisions for a big fish?

I know it's absolutely not possible, but my irrational fan keeps thinking the Angels should trade Trout or Ohtani in order to actually flesh out their organization with some talent.

One can dream...

Let's see how far we go, but say we win tonight, all of a sudden we are battle tested. Then say, take Houston to 6 or 7 games and you'll think well, if we had one big fish, maybe the series swings our way.

Just a thought. I hope they can pull something huge off (unlike the deadline). Huge like Andrew Miller, but one that stands in a batter's box. Cash in reward points for an even bigger reward. We've been saving for some time.

Amed continues to damage LHP. I'd play him anywhere vs. a lefty.
And he's not too bad as a SS vs. RHP.

I understand what you're saying/doing, but using Amed at 1B is not optimal in anyway IMO. He's either useful in the MIF or he's dealt. I'm gonna go with the latter.

He's not bad at all. He's average, and that's being generous when compared to all other SS. If they don't think that the defense and lineup can be improved internally then Amed very well might be wearing a Guardian uniform next season. I find that improbable.

Cleveland has the assets to make a swing deal, but not the financial room to get probably who would be considered a blockbuster player...

If we see them swing, it would be for a young RH power bat capable of 1B along with other positions... Vargas (1B/2B/LF) of the Dodgers, Huff of Texas (1B/C) Varsho DBacks (C/OF)... etc All guys with team control for this run...

I won't pretend to know where Arizona is in terms of their next contention window, but a mega trade for Zac Gallen and Christian Walker would be extremely costly yet tantalizing.

I don’t think Walker would, but the cost for Gallen is probably more than the cost for what Bieber would be.
