2022 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I hope teams fade Treylon Burks down to 44. His skill set isn't going to play with a lot of teams. He's either a deep threat with a QB like Watson or in a YAC SF/GB/NYJ/MIA Shanny offense. Otherwise, he will bust because he's not an elite separator.

If Burks/Skyy/Pickens are gone, just go EDGE and trade a day 3 pick for Shenault. He's Great Value Burks, just hasn't been used right.

It had three rough years (2018, 2020 and 2021) and three very good to outstanding years (2016, 2017, 2019).

But sure, horrible year-after-year. Now hit me with the dumb 42-27 meme and be on your way.

Yet their defense has sucked year-after-year…
Importance of quality coaching over great players. Great players can be schemed around, Coaches job to get them in position to succeed. One can only hope that Jim Knowles improves on the overall defense, as well as, they have players to step up and fill out the defense better.

Triggered much? My comment was in no reference to Michigan. It was the ironic nature of boasting about 6 top 5 defensive picks when the defense hasn’t been very good in that time frame.

Kinda seems like you got triggered by Breer's comment first. Of the OSU defenders who got picked in the top 5 over those years (J. Bosa, Ward, N. Bosa, Young and Okudah) only Nick Bosa was a member of a below average OSU D (2018) and he only played the first two full games and a quarter of the third.

Overall Team Defensive S&P+ for top 5 OSU picks in their final seasons:
Joey Bosa (2015 - 6th)
Denzel Ward (2017 - 7th)
Chase Young (2019 - 2nd)
Jeffrey Okudah (2019 -2nd)

These guys were all contributors for excellent OSU defenses. You're spewing.

I don’t think burks makes it out of the first but I’d be jumping for joy if he fell to 44.

I personally don’t really care that much either way. I was echoing what I've read the last several years on the OSU forum following losses. They're always pinned on the defense. Just thought the comment was funny/ironic given what Buckeye fans always complain about.

In the last two years, yes. But overall, it has been a mixed bag, as has been mentioned.

2016 had an elite defense with a mediocre offense.
2017 had a very good defense with a mediocre offense.
2018 had an awful defense with an elite offense.
2019 was all around elite. Lost to Clemson due to corrupt officiating.
2020 had an awful defense with an elite offense.
2021 had an awful defense with an elite offense.

I think OSU's main defensive issues have been a lack of a strong LB core. Their DL line and DBs have done well in the NFL. Looking back at LBs: Earl Bruce had Pepper Johnson and Spielman. Cooper had Diggs, Vrabel and Katzenmoyer. Tressel had Hawk, Carpenter and Laurinaitis (along with busts like Ghoulston). Meyer had Jerome Baker and Shazier. With Meyer/ Day we have had Browning and Werner, middle of the road guys.

Is OSU's defensive philosophy aligned more like the Browns with strong DL and DB and fill in the LBs as needed? I wish both had stronger LBs.

I think people in the business are excited about the draft because it has the chance to be unpredictable (moreso than other years).

There doesn't seem to be a lot of star power though, which keeps fans attention.
