Yet, he also had 2 walks and 2ks in first inning in 33 or so pitches. He fell down on one pitch and threw like 5-6 straight balls after that. Thought he was going to come out but finished inning.

His expected return from May 2021 Tommy John Surgery is July/August time frame to return to "game" action.. He's only in his low 20's and has as much talent as any of the top SP prospects not named Espino..

We'll see...

Is he a lock to be protected even with his health status?

IDK the answer to that question.. I would assume that if he's unprotected.. someone will pick him up for nothing.. then stash him on an IL for a duration of "fits and starts" or until he can be sent safely to the MiLB's for polishing and honing of his craft.. The Guardians have no desire to lose him that way...

I don't think we can protect him with the amount of talent we have that is rule 5 eligible without making a deal or two...

I think we can all agree there is a boatload of talent moving thru the minors and there will be some very interesting and difficult choices to be made after the season regarding the 40 man roster.

A deal or two aside.. Hankins will not be exposed to Rule V.. it's just not happening..
 
Wil the thrill Benson with three more walks today. On a pace for 100. Doesnt hit for an average though (.231)

Benson will always kind of be a lower BA, high OPS... He takes a lot of walks and hits for power... Keep an eye on his OPS over BA...
 
How good is Benson's outfield defense?

Could he be a rare super utility OF guy who you can use both as a power/walk threat ping hitter and a defensive replacement?

Or is he they type who would need more regular at bats to stay mentally locked in to his hitting approach?

Sorry if this is something the regulars have hashed out 100 times before.
 
Benson has been playing Centerfield lately with Nolan Jones in RF. Bensons tools are similar to Brad Zimmer
