2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still think the wing (or SF to be specific) is the greatest area of need..

Outside of that, shooting is always needed (especially if they’re 3&D) and developing a future plan for replacing Rubio would be next..

But to your point, the Cavs don’t look like they have to force any one position or any one role.. Ideally, they’ll be able to let the draft come to them and pick from the best player who fits their mold..

Carlos Alocen could be a perfect guy to groom behind Ricky Rubio...

And this is still the right draft for a wing too. So many options there that should be available.

This just feels like a deep draft in general with so many guys going back for another year of college after Covid. Just a ton of good sophomores, young juniors, and true seniors potentially flooding the late 1st and 2nd round.

Don’t think there is a wrong way to use their capital. Stay put and address the depth of the roster. Combine the 2 2nds to move into the 1st to get that extra contract year. Combine all 3 to move up into the late lotto or just outside.

Have to imagine Koby is licking his chops at the options he will have in the summer.

I'm always impressed by the AJ Griffin highlights but he never plays as they're taking it really slow coming off of injury. He could be a real steal if he decides to come out, depends on his medicals of course.

23. Cleveland - Ochai Agbaji - SG - Kansas

35. Cleveland - Jaime Jacquez - SF - UCLA

36. Cleveland - Johnny Juzang - SF - UCLA

If B Mathurin from Arizona falls I’m trading up and giving up future assets to get him, perfect fit for this team…….

Falls to what? He's not going top 5, so where does he need to fall for you to want to pull the trigger?

I would love for Ivey to be next to Garland. He is shooting 53% overall about 44% from 3 now, 6'4, 42-44 innch vert, can play a little pg, many play maker his handles arent good enough for pg at the NBA, quick as Westrbook, looks to set up others.

Most important he is a fellow Boilermaker, but we have a snowballs chance of getting him, he is playing himself into the top 5 for sure

I think Gabe Brown, should be on the 2nd round radar

Such a pipe dream, but that backcourt would be unstoppable offensively.

Some of the guys I really like so far, although granted I haven't really followed the draft as closely as usual:

Jabari Smith
Jaden Ivey
Kendall Brown
Bennedict Mathurin
AJ Griffin
Nikola Jovic (maybe? Only saw him in the U19, need to see way more)
Ochai Agbaji

All of those guys are athletic (except maybe Jovic) wings who could step in and defend and play within the system on offense from day 1, and most are good shooters too. The first 3 are probably beyond our reach even in a trade up, Mathurin may be there if we package our 2nds (?) and if AJ Griffin's health checks out, I'd be all over him, he's got some star flashes from the stuff I've seen. Could be a steal just because he's coming back and hasn't played much so far, but the Cavs also seem to redflag a ton of prospects so who knows.

edit: and Kendall Brown would probably be very near the top of my Cavs-specific wish list. Between him and Okoro at least one of them will probably turn into a good catch and shoot 3 point shooter, and together they could be absolutely nasty and permanently lock us into a top 5 defense with Mobley and Allen patrolling the paint.

Anyone have ESPN+ want to give us the Cavs tidbits?

I know one of my buddies who is a scout for them is in Las Vegas at the moment checking out the Ignite team. Had a lot of nice things to say about MarJon Beauchamp.
