2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After reading the thread and seeing your high praise/breakdown for his profile/production, I went and watched some things with Tari... Goodness. He's very good. I'm hoping his age is a detriment to teams somehow (21 in May). I can see a world where he THRIVES in the next level.

Would love to see him or Keegan join the team. Haven't seen much on this draft class personally, but the insight and breakdowns from the forum are second to none. Thank you and everyone for what you do and what you bring to the table!

To me, the fun thing about this lottery is, it is really deep.

I love Tari.....but this also is an 18 or so player draft.

Cavs will have several options at 14.....in a worst case.

I've been slacking, not expecting a pick......but I'll post some deep dive stuff on 4-5 guys I like in that range.

Admittedly I haven't done much work on watching these guys, so I'm looking forward to doing more watching in the weeks ahead. That said, here's where I'm at now.

Top 5 wings that I'm interested in somewhat near our pick:

Sochan- Not quite sure what he is, but I'm intrigued. He's got a lot more feel and ability than just a role player defender, but he's got awesome wing size and can probably play defense from day 1.

Tari Eason- @I'mWithDan makes a pretty darn good case. Another guy who can play defense from day 1.

Kendall Brown- He's actually got a lot of similarities with Isaac Okoro... if Okoro was a freak athlete and legit SF size. Lower on him than a lot of other guys here.

Ousmane Dieng- Home run swing.

Dyson Daniels- Can't shoot yet, but I loved what I saw from him in the rookie/sophomore game. Admittedly haven't watched him much at all, but he seems like a good defender and smart overall player who can do a lot of the connective things that make a team successful if he develops the shot.

Also interested in Tyty, I think there are some flashes of a Maxey type guy if he didn't keep getting hurt.

If we can move up, interested in seeing if we can get these guys:

Shaedon Sharpe- Complete home run swing, but he was the #1 high school prospect and he's been described as a combo between a freak athlete and high level shot maker. Who knows how his draft stock would be 1 year from now?

AJ Griffin- A little bit underwhelming in Duke aside from the shot. He was described as really explosive in HS before the knee injuries but was definitely not at Duke, is that a permanent concern? If he can get his athleticism back and keep the shooting, he'd be incredible for us.

General consensus is that we need shooting as a skillset and wing as a position right? I think we should take the best of either assuming we cant get both in the same player. Eason, Mathurin, and a few others look good. Far cry from when I was looking forward to drafting Wendell Moore (great school tho)

We should think big here too.

Can Sexton, #14 + 2 future picks get us in the range for Ivey?

To me, we should be ultra aggressive.

This is a bite at the apple we were not expecting.

We should overextend to grab one more difference maker who is young.

Absolutely, and I would be 100% for it.. I know you're a bit lower on him, but I think Jabari Smith has to be up there for the Cavs in terms of perfect fits. A guy who we can slot into big SF who will bomb from deep and can both defend up and down at a high level. He's probably way too high up there to be out of our reach though. This might be the last chance to draft a guy in the lottery, we need to maximize it and get that third star.

Jabari is a good complimentary piece.

My criticism of him has not been of him as an overall player......but how a #1 pick typically profiles.

If you have Garland / Mobley and add Smith, you are ecstatic.

If you are the Magic and draft Smith #1 overall.......probably less so.

He would be a great complimentary piece.....I just don't know that he can carry a team as a 1A / 1B.

Actually, my thoughts exactly from watching him play. He's got too many deficiencies to be a #1 overall guy for me. He struggles to create good shots driving to the basket, passing is so-so, he's not quite a game wrecker as a help defender. But as a super role player 3rd star, he'd be a godsend for us.

As of right now I’d say it falls like this for me-/

Trade up high:
1. Keegan Murray
2. AJ Griffin

Wildcards:
3. Jaden Ivey
4. Shaedon Sharpe

Trade up but not as high:
5. Tari Eason

Best case at 14:
6. Tyty Washington

Cam Johnson/Jalen Smith special:
7. Wendell Moore

If the Cavs are really committed to the LeVert/Sexton pairing at the 2-guard spot, I could see Eason being the lynchpin to making that work.. He’s essentially a mix of Lauri/Okoro — gives you the overwhelmingly perimeter size with some shooting but also the defensive first mentality as well..

Griffin and Murray are the 1A/1B right now because of their fits with the core..

Not sure what to make of Sharpe or Ivey just yet.. The talent is alluring but not all too sure if that’s the type of player the Cavs need need..

If all else fails, TyTy would be the best case scenario at 14 with his combo of size, shooting, and playmaking — it would slot in perfect off the bench at the 1…

The one issue I have is a lot of the available wings at 14 either don’t shoot it well enough (Brown, Sochan) or aren’t position versatile enough defensively (Branham, Mathurin, Agbaji) — pending NBA combine measurements.. You also have guys who have the “talent”/pre-season hype in PBJ, Jovic and Dieng but may be too far away..

The one guy who is likely a reach but falls into the “older but productive on high level collegiate team” type that the Phoenix Suns love is Wendell Moore.. If 14 really goes to the dump, he’d be a guy I look at as a safe option there..

The question moving forward is what team would be motivated to move back? Outside the top three teams this year, there’s a lot of atypical lotto teams or teams that are hoping to be further down the road than lotto teams that could be tempted by picks and/or players (Lauri, Sexton, Okoro)..

If there’s one thing we know Koby does value: high level production at young age and former Team USA guys…

Smooth, do you think Murray can play the 3? And not a Lauri-esque 3, but a legitimate NBA wing? If so, I'm definitely in on him. I admittedly haven't watched enough.

Who’s the best shooter (and I’m talking a legit 6’5-6’6) at SG or SF in this draft

I see Tankaton currently had Dyson mocked to the Cavs. I realize he likely wouldn’t be available if he could, but man I wish that kids three ball was acceptable. Would meet our Australian quota as well.
