2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd argue that in many ways he's the anti-Okoro. He's trying to do everything, all the time. His mistakes are more that he takes bad shots and make decisions because he's trying to force things, but he's not the kind of guy who will pass up an open shot. Even just watching his box score plays from a few games, there are many cases where he's in good defensive position but ruins it by reaching in and fouling the guy. Being passive on either side of the ball isn't in his nature.
Oh interesting. He has a high motor then? Similar to Marcus Smart? That is not a bad problem to have if the other skills are there already. I would love to get Eason then.

One other thing: We know Koby relies heavily on his Team USA connections (Sexton, Okoro, Mobley, Garland have all been through the circuit)..

Guys in this draft who have been in the Team USA system--

Patrick Baldwin Jr
Johnny Davis
Jaden Ivey
Kennedy Chandler
Harrison Ingram
Peyton Watson
Wendell Moore Jr
AJ Griffin
Jabari Smith
Max Christie

Harrison Ingram would be perfect.

He is lab created and was made from the left over parts of Harrison Barnes and Brandon Ingram. That is the perfect wing for us.

Here's whom ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz have the Cavaliers selecting in June:

No. 14 (own): TyTy Washington, PG/SG, Kentucky

Washington is a highly skilled 6-foot-4 guard with the type of winning pedigree that bodes well for March. Those who followed him closely through high school have long raved about his competitiveness and winning spirit, which despite nagging injuries did shine through at times during his freshman campaign. Washington plays a relatively simple game, thriving off transition hit-aheads, spot 3s, closeout attacks, midrange pull-ups, floaters and occasional ball screens, for which he makes the right play more often than not. -- Schmitz

No. 39 (via SAS): Terquavion Smith, SG, NC State

No. 56 (via MIA): Alondes Williams, PG/SG Wake Forest

We need guys that can guard the likes of Trae Young

It’s valuable to be a great defensive team, we should strive for that. But at the end of the day you also have to be a good offensive team and score, because you can’t shut completely shut down offensive stars. Great offense beats great defense in the NBA because refs will always cater to an offensive star. Just saying

Last few hours I've been watching a lot of tape on Tari Eason as a Cavs fit, specifically: he was primarily a college 4, can he be an NBA 3, and not just a Lauri 3/4? I think absolutely yes.

Can he dribble and create offense from the perimeter? Check out the video below. There's a lot of cases of him getting the ball outside the arc and chaining together a bunch of moves to get downhill. Between the legs dribbles, crossovers, spin moves, hesis. I think absolutely he can.

He's also an amazing foul drawer and can really draw contact on his drives.

Can he defend the perimeter? I think absolutely, with the caveat that he's extremely foul prone and that will need to change. He's a bit of a wild man where he's constantly hustling and trying to do everything, which leads to a ton of reach in fouls. Was this why he was their 6th man even as the unquestioned best player, to limit his minutes? But he's extremely athletic and I think he's got the foot quickness to defend 3s and even switch onto guards.

He's also probably one of the strongest guys in this class, and I think he can defend bigs on switches for a possession here and there.

Can he shoot well from 3? Not quite sure about this one. It's a bit of a funky catapult motion from his right shoulder, although the results have been very good. It's not particularly slow so I think he'll be fine as a catch and shoot guy, but shooting off the dribble is a big question mark I think.

I think he has the complete package, just raw for now. But give him a professional system where he can be taught to reign in the wild and focus on his strengths, and a proNBA shooting coach to fix his little things - and if those two things can improve, I mean what a tremendous ceiling.

Coz he has all the rest. Size? Check. Defense? Check, both with on ball and true up and down switchability, and off ball as he's described by everyone as his teams vocal anchor. Handle and creation? Needs to improve, but you don't find this kind of creation from the usual 6'8 wings at all. Slashing ability and finishing? Yep. Shooting? Well yeah, concerns, but he's not an Okoro level of a project at all, he makes shots and even hits some off the dribble. High FT% too. Playmaking? I'm not sure it's his biggest strength, but at that point we would creep into LBJ level skillset.

I'm a sucker for well spoken intelligent guys btw, so always watch the interviews and this guys is definitely a good communicator. Seems intelligent and confident.

The favorite thing though about him that I saw is in this video:

Right from the beginning when he's describing Tari's bag of tools, he goes to explain how adaptive the guy is, and how he adjusts to what the defenders are trying to make him do. That's high IQ... That's a trait that's going to take him places as he develops.

Like how is this guy not being talked about higher? Is it the rawness and seemingly out of control style that scares people off? Coz those are the exact things you can correct with a strong development system. Everything else is there.

Plus, big plus! Our resident draft gurus already singled him out as the one to watch, with @I'mWithDan driving the bandwagon, so he has the RCF darling of approval.

I'm no scout and know nothing, but I'm pretty comfortable betting Eason is going to end up as one of the best players from this draft. That tool bag with that intelligence... We know he has the motor too, and isn't a slacker. His ceiling is very high. But I'm pretty sure after workouts he's going to vault up draft boards ala Patrick Williams. How do you not live this kind of package in today's wing heavy game.

14. Cleveland Cavaliers: Ochai Agbaji (Kansas, SG/SF, Senior)
Scouts have bought in to Agbaji's breakout and shooting growth (103 three-pointers, 40.7 percent). And though he still doesn't project as a creator, his explosive finishing, bankable three-ball and defensive tools point to sure-thing contributions.

39. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Spurs): JD Davison (Alabama, PG, Freshman)
Davison put together an impressive highlight reel of athletic plays and passing, but limited shooting range, a weak pull-up game and no signs of self-creation have made it tougher to picture him as a starting point guard. He'll receive first-round consideration from teams willing to buy his chances of improving his jumper. He projects as the same type of energy bench guard he was for Alabama.

58. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Heat): Gabriele Procida (Bologna, SF, 2002)
A 6'6", 41.5 percent three-pointer shooter, Procida has flashed extra self-creation and shot-making versatility to draw NBA interest.

Question for those advocating for Branham/Agbaji/Mathurin/Davis— where do they fit on the defensive end with this team?

There’s already Osman, LeVert, Okoro and Sexton as your 2-guards, and all the above present little defensive versatility therefore adding any of the noted draft picks creates an even bigger long jam at the 2-guard spot.. Adding any of the above just creates further defensive issues, unless any of them measure as legit wing h/w/l at the combine..

Even if you get rid of one of Osman/LeVert/Okoro/Sexton, you still run into the same issue.. If you’re wanting to fit in one of Agbaji/Branham/Mathurin/Davis, you’d need to get rid of at least two of the above current rostered players..

Well it depends, those 4 guys have varying talent levels. Mathurin's shooting and defense instantly makes Cedi and Okoro expendable for me. Well Cedi is most likely gone anyway, and I would be fine slotting Okoro in at SF off the bench. It's spot minutes against backups.

LeVert is expendable in my eyes either way. Both him and Sexton won't make sense in the end, and hes not proving to be a good fit for now.

Davis/Branham are much more complete players imo - in theory. They offer creation but don't compromise spacing and actually improve defense. That's why I would be also fine bringing one in next to either Sexton or LeVert.

Agbaji is different altogether, he's a 3&D role player.

And I agree with your point about Sochan, Daniels, their non shooting is just simply too much detriment to where we are at imo. They would be last options for me.

They have Eason lasting to 18 but us picking Agbaji over him

Tyty is like a pure scoring guard right? Dont think we need another of those

I've seen Eason in the top 10 but others have him last to the 20s.

Are you saying that because of Sexton? Because he’s the only pure scoring guard we have. And Washington doesn’t have the midget problem

Sexton and to a lesser extend Garland. Our biggest needs are shooting and wings. Getting another scoring guard does not help that. I am more okay with Dyson because he has some great potential as a defensive guard and would make a strong 3 guard rotation with Sexland
