Cleveland was in striking distance for the ninth, allowing some bloop hit nonsense to happen. While, sure, in the aftermath of their win, you and they can say “that’s what happens when you make contact,” some of what happened in that inning was nonsense.

Only two of those balls were remotely hit hard, and just happened to drop into no man’s land. The ninth inning itself was massively unfortunate. While the Guardians will probably say “this is how we play,” no hitter is exactly trying to hit a ball 60ish miles per hour with the hope that they’ll manage to get it to just drop in between two fielders.

However, Game 3 simply happened the way it did, and no one can take it back. Was the ninth inning annoying and unfortunate: yes, absolutely. However, the way to fix that is to make it so a couple bloop hits don’t make a difference.

So the key to tonight is obviously Cal.

Can he avoid both walking guys and giving up the HR?

Our bullpen is in much better shape than their’s. Clase could go more than an inning again if we have the lead.

Is this the formula today?

Quantrill two times through the order, at least giving 5.
Stephan for 1
Karinchak for 1
Clase for 2

Harrison Bader is 4-for-5 against Quantrill with two home runs and a double. He also hit one off Hentges last night. What is our problem with this guy? He's 28 and is a .245 lifetime hitter with 52 career home runs, only five this season.

Josh Donaldson is 8-for-18 off Cal with two home runs and three walks. His line is .444/1.278 with 2 K's in 24 plate appearances.

For whatever reason Cal has been totally dominated by these two right-handed hitters. He needs to find a way to deal with them tonight.

The rest of the Yankees are 8-for-43 (.186) against him lifetime. In fact, it's pretty much feast or famine. Higashioka is 2-for-2 with a home run and Kiner-Falefa is 2-for-4. Otherwise he's done really well against this team, but he needs to keep Donaldson and Bader in the park (Rizzo, too).

In the first game Donaldson walked and then lined a shot off the top of the right field wall that was two inches from being a home run off Quantrill. Luckily it stayed in the park and he was thrown out while doing his home run trot. Bader hit a 406-foot home run off him on a 95 mph fastball middle of the zone and down - the exact same pitch and location as Bader's home run off Hentges last night. No more low fastballs down the middle to Mr. Bader, please!

I have no problem with the TBS broadcasting team, and don't understand the animosity towards Costas.

He isnt Vin Sully, but nobody is. Scully, like Babe Ruth, is in a stratosphere all his own.

They talk about the Yankees home runs and injury list...both valid items for discussion. They mention when a Yankee doesn't make a play that perhaps they should..again valid. They can't simply ignore that stuff.

They also talk about our kiddie corp, our ability to make contact, and the fact that many of our hits are not exactly line drives...all of it true. Heck, this forum consistently bemoans the fact that we live on 'luck'.

They've also made a pretty big deal about Kwan...who happens to not play for New York.

I guess I'm not into playing the victim when I'm not...lol.
Full stop. Bob Costas is awful and terrible, his opinions are biased, his feet stink and he doesn't love Jesus.

In the 6th inning we got three singles to make it 4-3. There were runners on the corners with two out. Straw hit a line drive up the middle similar to Oscar's hit in the 9th, but Straw's drive was a little more to the right of the bag and it was caught for the third out. If it gets through it ties the game and Kwan is up with two on.

If they want to bitch about bloop hits they also have to consider the line drives that were right at somebody with RISP and two out.

The point is that since the G's put more balls in play it's statistically more probable they will get more bloop hits and infield singles, especially with their speed. Sometimes they get them early and sometimes late. But they get them.

The more I look at that hit It looks so close to being caught by the pitcher. If he was in better position he probably would have caught it. Or at least knocked it down.

I wonder how many games the Guardians won this year without Clase, Karinchak or Stephan pitching. Can't be all that many.

Number has to be even smaller if you limit it to 1 run victories.

Looked it up.

6 regular season victories this season with none of Clase, Karinchak or Stephan pitching. Zero one run games and only one "close" game which was a Bieber complete game.

17-3 at Kansas City on 4/10
11-1 v. Chicago on 4/20
4-1 v. Chicago on 7/12 (Bieber GC)
8-0 at Toronto on 8/12
7-0 at San Diego on 8/24
11-4 v. Minnesota on 9/19
