2022 Season | Series #25 | Yankees @ Guardians | July 1-3, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm on the road this weekend so this will have to be short.

The Yankees have the best record in baseball and pounded the G's in New York, winning three straight by a combined score of 19-7 in late April. The Yankees have hit more home runs at this point in the season than any team in their history. They are starting Garrett Cole and two tough lefties. On paper this will be another sweep.

If that happens the G's will complete their brutal 17-game gauntlet with a 7-10 record, which is about what I was hoping for.

The Yankees are averaging 5.1 runs per game on the road, slightly better than at home. Their road record is not as good (22-12) as at home (an incredible 34-9).

Cole is 6-2, 2.99. He shut out the G's for six innings in the April series in New York. He's allowed two earned runs and struck out 27 in his last three starts. Aaron Civale gets the start for the G's. Civale has a 7.20 ERA and has allowed 51 hits in 40 innings. However, he has done a decent job of limiting home runs, allowing just 6 in 40 innings. In April the Yankees scored six runs off him in three innings, hitting 12 fly balls to 1 ground ball.

If Aaron wants to have any chance to go more than three innings tonight he needs to make them hit the ball on the ground and hope a lot of them are right at somebody. In 74 at-bats the current Yankees have hit just one home run off Civale - by Anthony Rizzo.

Jose Ramirez is 5-for-14 against Cole with a couple of home runs but the rest of the Guardians who have faced him are hitting .102.

Saturday it's McKenzie, who has been giving up home runs in bunches, against the best home run hitting team in Yankees history so far. Lefty Nestor Cortes, who beat the Guardians in April, goes for New York. Cortes has been a little more hittable in his last two starts, allowing 7 runs in 9.1 innings. But the Guardians are hitting .222/.614 against lefties.

Our best bet to steal a win is probably Sunday when Zach Plesac, who has allowed just two runs in his last 18 innings, faces Jordan Montgomery, who has allowed 15 hits and 9 runs in his last two starts. Montgomery is having a good season, 3-1, 3.27, but has been hittable in his last two outings.

This will be the last games of the season against the Yankees, thank goodness. After this series the first half concludes with 14 games against the Tigers, Royals, and White Sox.

Other than baseball broadcasting... well before my time..

The Garfield - 1, two three two three... jingle was what some/many/most people remember Jimmy Dudley by for some kind of replacement windows..
"throw to second one away back to first it's a double play!"...One of Dudley's favorite calls. I guess him and his partner, Bob Neal could not stand each other.

as i did the same let me add - we used to listen to the phillies if we could get wcau? out of philly -- all kinds of beantown sports on wbz - occassionaly picked up indiana u sports on a station out of ft. wayne and iowa u sports tho again i forget the call letters -- braves baseball on 670? 680? - 3we came in here in cbus clear as a bell some nights, hardly at all on others --- also used to lose some of those due to the stations just across the border in mexico who werent bound by fcc policies regarding wattage
I never listened to the Phillies.

But I did get to hear a Houston Colt 45s game...lol. Also, when the Expos were first playing, I once listened to a French broadcast for 15 minutes while trying to guess what was happening.

I listened to almost every StL Hawks basketball game....and Ft Wayne Komets minor league hockey. Once Bob Pettit retired and the Hawks moved to Atlanta, I stopped following them.

So we have 5 games in 7 days ....
I assumed Pilk May come up tomorrow as extra player as he will be on 5th day from 6/28 even though initially slated for Tues DH.
But, they can call up McCarty for a game but he last pitched 6/24 so skipped start. Why other than getting rocked.
Myers was 7.36 ERA in June and got rocked in last start.
Who do you call up for 2 games as they can’t pitch someone on 4 days rest and if they do, it’s Bieber who isn’t lined up to do so.

But, looks like Arias coming up instead ... why? You get a free 14th pitcher as 27 man. And, we have been playing reliever roulette (see who gets shelled and send down to get fresh arm)? So why position player instead?

I was confused but 2 reg starters tomorrow with all 8 relievers. Sunday, they can do an opener or bring up McCarty for Castro. Then Sandlin can comeback up 4th/5th (sent down 6/20) for fresh guy with Pilk 27th. But, still doesn’t explain why Sandlin doesn’t com up tomorrow for extra arm before being fully recalled for Castro / spot starter.

So why position player instead? Are you really going to tax pen more with an opener tomorrow or Monday? How do you get another starter up like McCarty if not as 27th man? Send down Castro again? Who can be called up then? Is Kar ready? Just seems weird when pen is taxed to do opener at some point this week. But, Castro can go down, McCarty or other starter up then Kar takes over the spot. Who knows.

I get the ceiling is really high with this kid, but just off injury.....

27th man type of tryout again

McCarty is gonna be the sacrificial lamb vs Cole at noon.

Any chance we see Carlos Vargas make his MLB debut in the coming week??

I suspect we might to see Arias start at 3B with Ramirez at DH for one of the games.
