2022 Season Series #28 | White Sox @ Guardians | July 11-13, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When the front office decided that they would only try and get two dudes (Winker and Olson) to upgrade the roster, they punted on this season. Nights like tonight reenforce the stupidity of that approach.

Zero earned runs scored by the Guardians in their last 21 innings. Pathetic.

Hedges and Maile are a combined 4-for-30 in July. Better than I thought. But one of Hedges' hits was a routine grounder that Moncada misplayed that was ruled a hit.

The G's were 0-for-12 with RISP tonight and lose 2-1. Giolito just toyed with them, as usual.

The inability to move the runner also hurt. In the 3rd, Owen Miller led off with a double. Hedges' job was to get him to third base with one out. Given that Hedges was hitting .153, I figured a bunt was in order. No bunt. Hedges bounces out to the pitcher, Miller has to hold at second, and Straw hits a fly ball to center that would have scored Miller if Hedges had got him to third.

In the 6th Straw doubled to lead off the inning, but Kwan took an 0-2 fastball for strike three, failing to move Straw to third. Rosario flied to right, which would have scored Straw from third. Kwan was also called out on strikes in his next at-bat. He was too passive tonight.

That's two runs the G's left on the field because they couldn't move the runner from second to third with nobody out.

In all there were three times the G's had a man on second with nobody out and could not advance him to third against Gio. It cost them a win.

I don't understand bringing in Hentges in the 6th with the 2-3-4 hitters coming up. The Sox hit lefties better than any team in the majors. Asking Hentges to face Moncada, Robert, Abreu, and Jimenez, all right-handed, is way too much to ask. Hentges gave up two runs and we lose 2-1.

Why didn't Stephan, who pitched later, come in for the 6th and have Hentges face the bottom of their batting order later?

Hentges had Abreu down 0-2 with runners on first and second. I'm looking for a breaking ball off the plate or a fastball above the zone. Instead, he throws a fastball middle of the zone and Abreu lines a 2-run double off the wall. Ballgame.

Dumb, dumb, and dumber. Letting Hentges swing away instead of bunt with a runner on second and nobody out. Taking a called strike three with a runner on second and nobody out. Bringing in a lefty to face the heart of the order against the best left-handed hitting team in baseball when Stephan and Sandlin were available. Throwing Abreu a fastball down the middle on an 0-2 count with two runners on.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. WTF, Tito?
