2022 Season Series #33 | Diamondbacks @ Guardians | August 1-3, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guardians did what they needed to do - won 2 of 3 from a below .500 team at home. They got lucky in getting a AAA pitcher starting today instead of Bumgarden and nicked him for four runs in five innings.

Bieber now 40-1 after a Guardian loss. Absolutely amazing. He needs to be a little smarter, though. Alek Thomas drove a low curveball over Gonzalez's head for a double in his second at-bat. Next at-bat Bieber threw him another curveball at the knees and he golfed it over the wall. Thomas ended up 6-for-12 in the series.

Love the way Rosario attacked the ball, hitting the 450-foot home run to center and then ripping a double into the left field corner. Instead of hitting to right field every time I like to see him attack a pitch now and then. He homered to left Monday night. That's two homers and a double in three games, none of them to right field.

AFAIC, Amed can play shortstop for us next year, too.

Oscar Gonzalez, welcome back! A line drive home run off a high pitch followed by a near home run off a breaking ball below the knees. This is what we've been waiting for from Franmil Reyes all year.

Two home runs and a near miss in one game! Sweet! Now that we're getting some big boys (Gonzalez, Benson, Jones) to go along with Naylor, Gimenez, and Hosey we might not be 28th in home runs anymore.

Congrats to Tyler Freeman on his first major league at-bat, hit, and walk. I assume we'll see Will Brennan in the lineup tomorrow?

Morgan was visibly pissed after the home run and subsequent mound visit by Willis, who probably told him to stop screwing around with the changeup and attack them with his fastball. Perdomo's home run came on the 5th changeup of the at-bat. Give a guy FIVE looks at your changeup and then put the last one in the middle of the zone and what do you expect?

The next batter got one changeup in six pitches and struck out on a slider.

Now we get the meat grinder as the Astros come to town.

Nice try by Kwan, but all he managed to do is knock the ball out of a fan's glove...who never saw Kwan coming.
What play was this? What was the result? A ground-rule double?

Very difficult stretch coming up. 4 vs. the Astros, then on the road again, for 6 against the Tigers and Jays. Hope we can keep pace in the division and the wildcard. 5-5, over the next 10, seems optimistic.

By the way, is anybody besides me annoyed at how Matt, Rick, and Andre yuk it up continuously? They seem to be constantly laughing. And 95% of the comments that send them into uproarious laughter are slightly amusing at best. It's like they keep getting bored with the game and decide to shoot the shit about something else until something happens on the field to pull them back to the game.

For example, one thing that annoys me is when the Guardians get a runner on third with less than two out in a close game, I want to know if the opponent is playing the infield in or are they back to concede a run on a ground ball? From the centerfield camera you can't see the infielders. That's something I would really like to know. But most of the time these guys are just yukking it up and don't bother to mention it. Maybe since they can see it they assume the viewers can, too.

This year I've had to watch a few games on ESPN, my local sports network, and Apple TV. It really gave me an appreciation of how bad these guys are.

Like in the first game of this series when the D-Backs manager kept changing pitchers. The Bally crew's "analysis" consisted of "Boy, he's sure using a lot of pitchers." What he was doing was bringing in a lefty every time the G's had the middle third of their order coming up, which included Naylor, Gimenez, Miller (hitting a mere .193 against lefties), and Nolan Jones. By doing this he was able to hold the G's scoreless with his bullpen for seven innings and force the game to extras. It was brilliant managing (as opposed to Tito who only removes a pitcher after he gets shelled), but the Bally bozos had no comment other than to note he was changing pitchers frequently.

I guess they never thought to wonder why.
I was watching to see if the Bally crew would focus more on baseball today and they certainly did. There were no long yuk-fests like we normally get multiple times per game. Part of it was because Antonetti came on and they had to be serious when he was in the booth, but you could tell from the first inning when they were watching Marte swing and commenting that he may be favoring the hand that was hit yesterday that they were focusing on the game.

I saw a distinct difference in the way they broadcast the game and a lot more professionalism. They did digress to give Andre a little grief about his shorts but that was fine as they didn't do it while the game was being played.

I'd be willing to bet they read my post on the subject, which got four "likes" and a few people semi-agreeing and decided to show that they can talk intelligently about baseball. I doubt is was a coincidence. For one game at least I thought they did a much better job.

After Amed drilled that home run over the left field wall on Monday night I think he said, "Maybe I should try to pull more often". It sure worked out well for him today.

Henry jammed him on the first at-bat and got a weak ground out to third. Second at-bat Henry struck him out swinging, getting three swings-and-misses. Third at-bat Amed got some pay back.

Longest homer hit in the Prog this year by a Guardian.

Last few games Rosario has been swinging with more of an uppercut and swinging HARD. It's as if he's heard all the crap about poor SLG% and OPS and decided that he, too, can swing for the fences a bit. I like it (as long as he doesn't get carried away trying to catch Aaron Judge).

Yeah, 14 years together for Rick and Matt, and now six years for Andre. A lot of stories to drag out when the action gets slow. Some may like it but I find that listening to three guys all laughing loudly at the same time distracting, especially when it occurs many times each game.
I listen to opponent's broadcasts from time to time. Usually just 2 guys. Boring as shit, if I want a nap then listening to an opposing broadcast is good sleep medicine. I'll take our trio over the majority of what other teams put on the air. For example they did a pretty good job during the 11 inning win, I didn't feel like I missed a single thing of importance despite the banter during as much excitement as baseball can provide. Most games are way more boring and I don't mind the chit chat.
