37th amongst qualified hitters in slugging, ahead of names like Abreu, Schwarber, Olson, Cron, and Donaldson.

58th in OPS amongst qualified hitters in OPS, ahead of names like Bell, Lindor, Correa, Chapman, France.

Imagine demoting a guy with a track record like that a few months into the 2022 season. Not a single team in baseball would have done that.

Feeling critical about the move or making a point to counter those who have said we’re too deferential with our vets in the past?

Also, think there’s any chance they can trade him for a reclamation project reliever that fits their profile or will teams just wait until he’s released?

Any time he’s been promoted, he’s been terrible, but eventually adjusts. Hopefully the same pattern will hold true here.

Guys are feeling liberated after back to back shutdowns by Verlander and the other guy
