I think putting Straw in for Benson was a bad idea given how badly Straw is swinging the bat lately (3-for-36 this month). And today we got the three true Straw outcomes; strike out, ground out to 2nd, and two fly balls to right field.
That Blue Jay batting order is very good and Tristan did a great job in holding them to two runs. Unfortunately, their pitching was even better. White was better than I expected. We needed to get more than one run off him in the first before he found his rhythm, but their centerfielder made a nice diving catch on Rosario's blooper and then Jose chased a first pitch breaking ball and got himself out.
Jose also chased two pitches way out of the zone on 3-2 counts in the 8th and got himself out again. Too bad because Naylor doubled and we would have had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out if Jose had taken the walk.
Gimenez had another awesome game - 2 hits, 2 walks, a stolen base, and another runner thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw from short right field. He should definitely be in the running for a GG.
I saw another thing today I've never seen before; Maile running from first on a 3-2 pitch getting thrown out at second on a ground ball to the first baseman. I can't recall ever seeing a first baseman try to throw out a runner at second who was running on the pitch, much less a right-handed first baseman. Maile slowed up going into second thinking the play was at first and was barely out.
I think Guerrero made a mistake and if Maile had run hard and slid both runners would have been safe with nobody out.
McKenzie tried to sneak an 0-2 fastball past Hernandez and he hit it out. Pretty questionable to throw him three fastballs in a row.
Chapman has hit 17 of his 23 home runs at home and is second only to Judge with 8 homers since the break. No shame in him going deep, but Tristan should have kept the ball down.
Really impressed with Toronto's bullpen. So far they've thrown 9.1 innings with no runs allowed.
Guardians 1-for-10 with RISP. That hurts in a one-run loss.
Let's win the series behind Beebs tomorrow.
