2023-24 Season | Game #69 | Heat @ Cavs | March 20, 2024 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No, the Knicks will be the 3rd seed
And we might be the sixth seed and play the Knicks again. Miami will not only gain another game on us by beating us in South Beach but have the tie breaker as well

Worst case scenario might happen in the offseason folks. We get our clocks cleaned in the first round, JBB gets a pass because of injuries and Don leaves for greener pastures.

  • Despite having a size and skill advantage down low with Bam Adebayo out, the Cavs shot more threes (11) than twos (7) in the third quarter. It’s usually a good thing but when you have the size advantage inside and shoot 6-21 from three in the second and third quarter combined, you must play to what your strengths are.
  • The Cavs finally outscored the Heat in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. They even had an 83%-win probability with 90 seconds left and couldn’t do enough to pull out the home win.
  • Coming into the fourth quarter Garland was 5-15 from the field, 3-10 from three-point line with 14 points. He ended the game 7-18 from the field, 3-11 from three with 20 points. Okay… but the Cavs aren’t paying him to be okay and really needed to him to lift the team more especially late.
  • 20 points (38.9 FG%, 27.3 3P^) and 9 assists with one turnover and a +3 is a dandy night. But the Cavs aren’t paying him to be dandy. Just in the way Mitchell stepped up during the steak, you were hoping for some of the same from Garland. But it’s only further cemented more how much Mitchell means to the Cavs.

Don cannot leave this summer he is not a free agent.
He can’t leave but he can request a trade and force our hand by saying he won’t resign here, making things awkward if we keep him going into next year. Would have to call his bluff and make him turn down a lot of money if we didn’t meet his demand.

All hypothetical of course, I’m not sure what’s gonna happen with him at this point.

So far there has been little to no evidence that Don is going to force a trade. Further, it makes zero sense financially. He absolutely can and may want to be traded further down the line if and when he resigns and at that point Cleveland would get a nice return. No one knows what Don is going to do and most likely he doesn’t either. As a broken record, i and others several times have shared the difference in money he can get from Cleveland vs elsewhere and he seems to be extremely happy here. Just because Kyrie did something like this doesn’t mean Don will. Two completely different people. Knicks are out of the picture in my opinion too.

Yeah hes not going to the Knicks

I just put some dudes on ignore who are in here whining with a bunch of doom and gloom worst case scenarios. Fuck that mindset.

Now, about the game...why did we shoot a 2 pointer with 4 seconds left? IMO that's a coaching failure there.

Niang should have been benched when it was obvious he didn't have it tonight against this team. I'd rather see Mook get minutes when Niang is missing his outside shots.

Garland was a lot better tonight, but he had me yelling at the TV when he missed or ignored a wide open JA rolling down the lane inside of 5 minutes, leading to an empty possession. Garland made the pass a few minutes later and JA finished helping us keep pace.

We don't have anyone who can guard Rozier in our arena. Not sure what to say about that.

I thought there was a clear effort to keep the ball moving tonight which is good. Where we failed is a lot of possessions the ball didn't really go side to side forcing the defense to scramble, we were passing but keeping it on one side of the court. Need to make them scramble more.

AT least we played tough, tried to do the right things. Frankly we were outcoached in crunch time which comes as no shock to anyone. If a game comes down to JBB versus Spo, you can lay money that we're gonna lose.

Agree on the doom and gloom.

I don’t think JBB drew up a play to get Niang a two point shot after several seconds ran off the clock. Miami defended the three point line well. Niang was 3/13 but he was the only Cavalier to make more than one three outside of ASG and Sam. Reasonable to have him out there.

Close game, they got us. On to the next game. Hopefully we get our guys back soon.

I only saw it once (I had to watch on Telemundo) but from memory it looked like we didn't have much of anything drawn up. They just passed it around the perimeter to guys who were all covered. I would like to have seen us run Darius off some staggered screens, have Sam pop out as a second option.

Yeah hes not going to the Knicks
Mitchell is not going anywhere in the short term. Donovan is going to extend with us for financial reasons (which are significant, he can make several millions more by re-signing with us).

That's not to say Donovan won't request a trade later on down the road, but I'd be willing to bet he remains a Cav for at least the next two seasons.

Tough shots or not, we have talked all season about #Cavs in late-game situations. Tonight, Miami scored on its final five possessions and won the last 2:04, 13-6.cleveland.com/cavs/2024/03/c…
I mean this is the kind of simple Simon analysis I've come to expect from Fedor. We don't have Mobley. We don't have Wade. We're not really in a position to double Rozier with Niang on the floor and you shouldn't need to double Rozier anyway.

I'm not that confident bearing this team if we matchup with them in the playoffs. They just execute while the cavs make mistakes. Maybe the guys are too young I don't know. I really don't want to be down about this, but the team can't seem to be bothered about playing the bad teams.

It is crazy how is they don't have either Mobley or Wade it seems like the defense doesn't work
Rozier isn't hitting those wild, off balance 3s point shots 4 games out of 7 in the last two minutes. Jimmy isn't going off against Mobley/Wade the way he did against LeVert/Niang. It's easy to "execute" against meh defensive teams or personnel, it's a lot harder against good defensive teams. But last night is why I say Okoro is a good, but not elite defender.
