Really happy to see Dobbs brought back -- made too much sense for it to not happen..

Between his showing in pre-season and then showing enough in his two starts with Tennessee, he's a good fit behind Watson... Browns don't have to change the offense going from Dobbs to Watson and back like they did between Brissett and Watson -- you can essentially run the same offense with both guys..

If the Browns need to buy a game or two because of a Watson injury, I'd have a lot more faith they could get a win or two more than I do with Mond... In the two games Dobbs started last year, he was 25th in EPA during that stretch.. For what you're paying him, basically a vet minimum deal, really can't expect more than that..

Here's to hoping Dobbs can continue developing and Browns and Dobbs find a good marriage to backup Watson while he's here..

I still think they will spend a day three pick on another QB to mix in...

Dobbs though likely has the QB2 spot unless someone really steps up and takes it...
Browns are likely only carrying two QBs, so if there's any QB they take it would likely be in the 6th/7th round with hopes they can sneak him onto the PS... Although, that may already be Mond's fate..

Browns really haven't kept two QBs and don't expect that to change.. They like to utilize that "extra" roster spot elsewhere..

Scorching take. The guy whose been on 5 teams (Browns and Steelers two go rounds) and only started 2 career games isn’t good.
Lol yeah I didn't think it deserved such a post. We get it. But nonetheless, right move for a full roster.

Depth has to come from the draft.

You pay to fix holes that your drafting leaves behind--and you pay for starters. You don't pay for depth because the reality is every team in the NFL is one injury away from a position group no longer being a strength.

I'm fairly certain that was one of those DePodesta guardrails from forever ago that people still like to show the image of.
I would agree not to pay for depth but the depth they need shouldn't be above the minimum across the board: a vet EDGE, a minimum vet RB, a minimum vet LB for competition, a vet 3rd safety (Josh Kalu?)... Where I think they're still open to spend is another iDL starter, maybe LB for the right guy (but a guy like Perryman should come cheap) and if the WR shakes loose (Hardman)...

Problem is, I just have little faith going into the season with Wright + Thomas + rookie behind Garrett, or Winfrey + Hill + Elliott + Hurst + Togiai next to/behind Tomlinson... Think you have to find something to prevent a worst case scenario of getting very little out of your draft picks last year...

The same way you can't pay for depth is the same way you can't go into the draft drafting for need... You to go into the draft with baseline needs filled and the flexibility to draft the best guy on the board...

Hot take...

I don't think Dobbs is any good.

But Mond isn't good either so it's six of one, half a dozen of the other for me.
Wet blanket all day

They carried 3 all of last season. But the situation is a bit different from a cap/cash spending perspective.

I think the NFL is no longer a free agency frenzy...maybe more of a free agency function? A free agency fete?!?

Should art least look into cam Newton as back up. Maybe he’s ready. You can do worse if you need a win. He would have something to prove

I think he wants a chance to start. He still thinks he’s a starter. He’s not coming to back up Watson.
