Because he's 9 year veteran with 3000+ yards, 18 TD, and a YPC of 16.2 ? Not world beater numbers but clearly the guy has proved he can play at some level. Schwartz looks like a guy who is on track to be out of the league by 25.

He literally said he'd be a 4 or 5 on the depth chart so pretty sure his expectations are right in line for what Goodwin would be here. Goodwin's last 2 contracts have been $1.2m each, pretty sure wherever he signs won't be for more than $2m

Agree here, Goodwin has shown the ability to make the plays required of the role as a deep threat.

Schwartz has not shown the ability to see the field at the NFL level.

Goodwin getting 20-30 catches and even being on the field enough to warrant safety attention is immediately a more valuable asset to the team than Schwartz.

Schwartz hasn't even shown the ability to stand out on special teams, so its not as though he provides that element over Goodwin either.

Glad to see the Browns FO is less starstruck as they are function oriented. that's how 2017 Eagles won the bowl. Did the homework, Wentz balled out.

Really happy to see Dobbs brought back -- made too much sense for it to not happen..

Between his showing in pre-season and then showing enough in his two starts with Tennessee, he's a good fit behind Watson... Browns don't have to change the offense going from Dobbs to Watson and back like they did between Brissett and Watson -- you can essentially run the same offense with both guys..

If the Browns need to buy a game or two because of a Watson injury, I'd have a lot more faith they could get a win or two more than I do with Mond... In the two games Dobbs started last year, he was 25th in EPA during that stretch.. For what you're paying him, basically a vet minimum deal, really can't expect more than that..

Here's to hoping Dobbs can continue developing and Browns and Dobbs find a good marriage to backup Watson while he's here..

You dont want Dobbs to develop too much or we lose as a back up and he gets too expensive.....kidding...sort of, lol

A two day trip for a speedy WR that could fill in Schwartz role

We dont want the Schwartz role filled, we can let the drop 2 balls a game role die with Schwartz when he is cut.

I want to fill the competent 3rd receiver with speed role, Goodwin might be able to do that.

Why do you think Goodwin's track speed corresponds to on-field results and deep threat ability while Schwartz's doesn't?

Eventually people need to understand that track speed doesn't always equate to getting open, not even on 9 routes. Even running a 9, which is the example people always give as if these guys are running nothing but go routes 80 times a game, I guarantee you Jerry Rice is more likely to be open than John Ross.

I think people just see that Schwartz, with his speed, has not turned into a very effective football player--so they want to try for the next guy with speed.

That just isn't how it works. You want receivers who are good football players. Show me the guy who understands footwork and knows how to set up a DB. Show me the guy who understands that he can help move safeties away from where he wants to go with subtle body and eye movements. Those things will never show up in a 40-yard dash or a 10-yard split--but they show up on the football field time and time again.

Amari Cooper is a great example. Just watch what he does immediately at the snap--the way he uses footwork to get the DB off balance before he even runs his route is worth more than any track time.

If Goodwin is just coming in because we're thinking of cutting Schwartz and/or Jakeem Grant, and we want another fast gadgety player for cheap, then sure. But if we're expecting him to be able to contribute anything more, or be a reliable deep threat just because he was an olympic track athlete, then we're fooling ourselves.

Goodwin has already proven himself to be a better player than Schwartz so I don’t really see your point.

Important to note: Watson and Goodwin share same agent, so file that away as to why they might be exploring him vs some other veterans to fill out the backend of the roster..

A Goodwin addition is more so competition and insurance for Schwartz, Grant, Woods, etc then it is a solution to the Browns #2/#3 WR needs.. Goodwin wouldn’t impact their draft plans or change going after a Hardman should his price drop.. He’s more so another guy to add to the mix that provides a known floor..

No way Schwartz is on this team next year, i wont believe it till i see it.

But Woods is an interesting point, Bell showed promise year one, but Woods was better than expected when healthy. A healthy Woods might be a legit receiver.

To be fair....and hear me out....a motorized golf cart is a better asset to the team than Schwartz.....tackling dummy, a dinosaur fossil to keep Myles happy. I am sure you are seeing where i am going with this.

It's a shame Grant got injured before the start of last season. I was hoping they'd use his speed in ways Schwartz was expected to do, including gadget plays. I don't know what he will look like coming back from that injury though. Speed was his thing.
