2023 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lots of guys leaving. Nobody who really played besides honda, but is this normal? Lots of names I recognize as touted recruits.

This is the new normal around NCAA. If you aren't in the two deep and getting gameday reps, then take a chance on the portal. NIL is greasing the wheels of this movement.

I don't blame them especially if they get passed up by younger players as 2nd and 3rd year guys. Transfer portal will be for keeping useable depth.

Is there any smoke at all to Harrison considering a return? I find it hard to believe but if I were to try and convince myself it would be that he's seeing the possibility of playing one more year with a better QB and trying to become the first WR selected number 1 overall in decades.

I know, unlikely. But I'll hope.

I’ll never really believe a Top 5 pick lock is going to go back to school.

Harrison is in a different situation than a lot of kids though.

His dad is a hall of fame receiver who made millions. NIL rules regarding College athletes being able to earn millions as players. So the financial part of the NFL would mean less to him than other guys.

His dad also played 4 years of college football. So maybe it’s something that means something to him.

Something not worth getting excited about but there might be some legs to it. I think a whole lot will depend on the QB situation.

He basically said it himself that he hasn't decided. With the NIL money that could be the same as rookie scale, it makes the decision a little harder than it was before. The other part is Marvin Harrison Jr is so good that he is more likely to be drafted by a bad team without a QB. There really isn't that team that is real bad because their QB went down to draft him in the top 5 or even 10 but he is clearly a top 5 talent that a team will take. If he waits a year, he can compete for a national championship and possibly head to a better NFL team next year.

I thought he was going to be 100% out when Mccord transfered since they were best friends but maybe he saw the limitations with Mccord also and a potential new QB could sway him back in. I'm not sure we truly need Marvin Harrison Jr to stay, they're loaded with WR talent and most likely will reload fine to compete. I do think getting the right QB is the most important part of the off-season. MHJ just might be the person that tips the scales for that QB to come here and possibly others in the portal.

It seems normal compared to other big name schools. Some Buckeye reporters said that most big programs that aren't in the playoffs have between 8-16 in the portal right now. They also said because Ohio State has a 22 player recruiting class if they don't have players in the portal then they can't be active recruiting in the portal either, it's a numbers game.

I mean whether he goes this year or next odds are it'll be to a bad team with no QB.

I hope he waits and the Steelers bottom out next season.

Rare, rare type of WR that can make bad QBs look good. Larry Fitzgerald level of talent.

Very interesting that Miss State signed the QB from Baylor. I can't imagine that kid would go there if there was even a chance Gabriel was going there. Which is where many assumed he might head.

I have to think we are in the running here or should be.

I know QBs flock to Lincoln Riley and why wouldn't they, so USC has to be a potential player here too for him.

There’s been lots of rumors of Gabriel going to Oregon.

Yea I've seen that.

We'll see how it goes but the Riley Leonard rumors are a major letdown compared to some of these other guys in the portal.

I'm not sure he's even an upgrade over McCord and that's not even taking his season ending injury into consideration.

We should be able to compete with the Oregons of the world, right?

I agree.

Leonard is at best a lateral as a thrower, but he's a significant upgrade as a runner. Think his impact would be similar to JT Barrett, for instance. Which honestly would have been good enough this year. Next year? Who knows.

Would much rather have Ward or Gabriel, though.

I'd rather (and I'm guessing OSU would rather) land Dante Moore in that case. You'll have more him more than 1 year (I believe) and the ceiling there is potentially very high. You might take a step back next year, but the hope would be to take a big step forward the following year.

I think you lose most/all of the QB room if you bring in Dante Moore. I...don't think that's a good idea. And I don't think it's going to happen for that exact reason.
